I know there are 100's of threads on this but i don't know if there was anything new that would help me out...

I'm looking for the BEST Upscaling(No Realta or Reon in any of these right?) DVD/VHS player that will be able to Play BOTH over HDMI

Talked to some guy in bestBuy...he probly didn't know what he was talking about...he said no DVD/VHS Combo plays VHS over HDMI because VHS is an analog format...(Isn't DVD a digital format? i remember using composite with that!)

Sooo is there a player...in ANY price range that will give me this...we've got hundreds of Disney VHS tapes that my 2 1/2 year old loves to watch over and over again

Not much interest in VHS here.

This search page http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDname=&Search=Search&dvdportable=&dvdchanger=&dvdtv=&dvdvcr=1&dvdhdmi=1&chipset=&orderby=Name&hits=50&Submit2=Search shows combo players with HDMI. You can add selections for your upscaling desires. The comments on each player might show whether VHS plays over HDMI.

Are you sure you need VHS over HDMI? It's not going to improve the quality. S-Video is as good as it gets for tape.

What i'm looking for is something that will play both at there best...over ONE connection...i've got three of these units already and unless you willing to watch everything over cable line or composite you have to have two connections to your TV its just a pain to have to change inputs from av1 - component 1 just to watch a dvd...plus i have an extra HDMI input on my TV and already have a cable...might as well put it to use

I may be wrong but I don't believe any combo uses HDMI or component for the VCR side. At least none that I am aware of. The guy in Best Buy may be correct.

The Reviews for the Samsung DVD-VR375 say that it does...but who knows...these are written by random people

JVC has a couple of combo recorders that upconvert both vhs and dvd over a single hdmi cable. 1080P and yes the VHS looked better upconverted much to my amazement. The dowhfall to the JVC units to me is the fact they have no S-VIDEO IN for recording. Other than that I love it.

I picked up a Toshiba combo unit that has a S-Video IN
for recording and like it also. But it does not send the vhs and dvd over the hdmi, requires two connections.

As everyone knows there used to be components inputs on a lot of recorders. Some manufacturers won't even put a S-Video input on their recorders now.

From page 22 of the owners manual DVD and VCR playback is possible through HDMI with the Samsung DVD-VR375. Now I am aware that some DVD/VCR combos such as the Samsung and JVC output both DVD and VCR over HDMI.

I have the Panasonic DMR-EA38VK. It plays VHS tapes fine. The picture looks crappy on an HDTV since VHS has such poor resolution, but it will play.

I have just connected a Sony RDR-VX560 that palys both the DVD and VHS thru HDMI. VHS looks like crap (and we loved that crap til we knew better). But at least it does not require an input change.
