Wife is concerned that 60'' may overpower the room, which is our living room. I think the 50'' would be fine, but I sure dont want to regret not going right the first time. Man I wish Pioneer had a 55 inch!

It's not too big, but it can over power the room. I sit 7' to 10' away and upgraded from a 50" to the 60".

Depending on the size of your room it can look overpowering, but from a viewing perspective, it's not too big. 50" will be good as well.

I feel that a 65 inch would be the right size from 6 feet so go big or go home. :D

blasphemer!!! ban him!!! :D

nah, it's not too big... i have a relatively small room (15X17) and there's no problems with a 60 in there... still room for rack, speakers, bookshelves, recliners, aquarium, etc.

I got a 60" 7-8'. I thought it was big at first. Now I think it could be bigger, does that make sense? IMO, you can never get too big with tv's.

Not too big if you want to see the benefit of 1080P. As said before it can over power the room, but the picture looks great.

I think its perfect! :)
But it all depends on your viewing experience preference.

If you are getting it from place where you can return/exchange it.. go big first. I recently bought a 65" DLP because I thought the 73" might be too big. I ended up exchanging it for the 73". I should have gone with the 73" first to decide if it was too big. Because the way I did it if the 73" would have been too big and I wanted to go back to 65 then it would have been my second exchange instead of just one which is a pain in the ass.

From my experiences, always start with the biggest model and if you have too, work your way down.

I have my new 60" and I sit about 12' from it. I do feel it is over powering but I don't care. I love it.

And that is all that matters in the end.

I'm 9.5 feet from my 60", and I think it's just about perfect. If I was much closer, i think I'd start to see more artifacts or pixelization (video games). I think it depends on what you're going to be watching. If it's mostly HD and widescreen movies, definitely go big. If you're going to be watching a lot of stretched SD TV or other low res sources, you may want to go smaller.

I don't think the size of the set itself is overpowering. I went from a 36" CRT to a 60" plasma, and even though the screen itself is much bigger, the screen is at least a foot closer to the wall so it doesn't stick out into the room as much (i.e., it's much less overpowering from the side). You also have the option of hanging it on the wall, tucking the components out of the way, and going for low profile/in-wall speakers. I find my big old L/R channel, and even the center channel that used to sit on top of the old TV, now stand out much more than before. A reason to upgrade! :)

SD can really look like even worse crap closer up. That's the only real downside.

Depends on your source. If its Bluray or HD sat or OTA its fine. But I found on my Pio 150 for SD that at 8 feet was too close so I settled in around 11 feet and it covered all the various formats quite nicely. Of course what others have said it all comes down to what you and your eyes like the best :)

depends on your viewing source. SD and even lousy HD will look like crap. Blu ray will look great. Hd cable may or may not look great, depends on your content provider.
