Need help in finding a great HD camcorder within the budget of $500 to $700.
Can someone recommend a good HD camcorder and why? Prefer HD drive camcorders.

I'm not a fan of ANY built-in media. The firewire on my HDV camcorder needed an expensive repair just to capture stuff I'd already shot. Ny new AVCHD camcorder records to an SD card - readable in a $10 card reader. With a hard drive don't take any videos when you drive through a mountain pass over 10,000 feet - it's bye-bye hard drive! Sky diving and mountain climbing are out too!
Just some thoughts,
Dave

Thanks Dave, I thought the HDD is the way to go. What model do you prefer if a flash drive?
canon hf100 and spend the leftover $$ on extra battery and memory cards

Rearched all night and it looks like the Canon HF10 is the great bet. What are your thoughts on the HF10?
Is it worth the mid $700s? or is there a better place to get it cheaper? Kinda over my budget but is it worth it?

I always consider the HF100 is better buy. For the money you saved, you can buy some more 16GB flash cards. I prefer to transfer my video using a card reader - I don't like the hassle of hooking up the camcorder to the PC (and inexplicably, you must plug in the AC adapter to interface with the PC), and transferring via a good card reader is much faster.
stick with hf100 (for your budget) and buy from a reputable place.

I never thought about altitude challenges to hard drive camcorders. Interesting and good to know.
