View Full Version : I want to show Lcd flaws/weak spot to family what movies/clips to show?
Hey guys well i know that theirs alot of stuff that shows lcd weakness where plasma wins, but i would like to know any specific like certain movies or clips or shows or something?
to show off lcd weakness and plasma superior....
NOT A DEBATE on LCD VS PLASMA
i already establish plasma is better in all terms except watching outside in extreame ambient light.....
EDIT:
i forgot to mentioned i have a 42px75u 720p plasma soon to be arrived PDP-5020 1080p pioneer plasma and will be using a wxga lcd to compare side by side.
sammytvjunior23 09-06-08, 12:39 AM really fast moving movies like sci-fi movies with alot of dark scenes...try some of the newer starwars movies or terminator 2/3, and then try some really dark games if possible.
ok so dark scenes - black level
T1 T2 ? any paticular scene? hmm racing or fast action pace.... sports but what.....
thanks more anyone?
side-by-side comparisons are generally needed unless the people you are showing are experienced calibrators, reviewers, or at least enthusiasts. Shoot-outs routinely do just that, with the plasma nearly always coming out on top in critical evaluation. If you can get them side by side, play anything. It won't even be close, they will see the better picture of the plasma and the better blacks and deeper colors will be the most immediately apparent things. If you can't get them side by side, play stuff with dark scenes and point out the contrast and lack of white light washout, and ask them to compare it to their experience with an lcd. Thats all I can think of.
sorry i forgot to mentioned that it will be done side by side my current plasma my new pioneer and a wxga lcd, and in want setting should i leave it to? standard ? or will plasma even excel in vivid?
jackass414 09-06-08, 08:20 AM blade runner, any scene in that movie...it was made for black level comparisons
badmeng 09-06-08, 08:59 AM Yes, Blade Runner is good and also Star Trek Nemesis.
PENDRAG0ON 09-06-08, 11:36 AM Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the PS3 is a great test for motion. (1080p signal at 60fps) both the demo and the retail game will work. load up a new game and fight your way to the spot where 2 ninja ambush you from above, after finishing them off stop and check how much detail you can see in the trees, now spin the camera and notice how much detail is lost, spin it as fast as it will go and focus on the individual leaves as they go by, on an LCD you won't even be able to see them, they become one big blob, on a Panasonic plasma they loose some detail and slightly blur, on a Pioneer, they have almost no blur at all (looks almost like my old CRT in motion)
I'm on an LCD right now and waiting to get a plasma at the end of the month. I watched Transformers on Blu-ray last night and anytime there was a lot of fast action, e.g. practically any of the 'bot fights, it was hard to keep up with what was happening because of the motion blur. I bet that would be good to showcase the better motion on a plasma.
Thanks guys, yeah black level motion blurr motion resolution, what else ....
i have a ps3 i might be able to get my hands on another ps3 or 2 xbox 360s or i can split ota HD

This kind of goes hand in hand with the black level part, but if you can find a dark scene in a movie, with a lot of shadows, make sure to point out all the extra detail in the darker areas on the plasma. That will leave people impressed. Try find a super dark scene also (there are several on the movie "The Descent". People will notice that on the LCD, it is not black, but bright gray, because of the damn backlighting, whereas the plasma will be super black :)
avp 2 requiem is a good example right?
