i have had my pioneer 5071 for a little over a year. it has been fantastic. i had a POS home theater in a box but it finally crapped out. I have a very small space for my theater room 12x12. so i dont need a ton of speaker and power. i have a marantz 4200 for a receiver and klipsch sum and speakers. my friend had a samsung blueray player he sold me for practically nothing. i have an hdmi cable running from the hd cable box to the rec and a hdmi fro the blue ray play to the rac also and an hdmi from the receiver to the tv. it works great on cable. when i put in a blue ray dvd, i get some wierd silver bar on the screen adn nothign happens on the player, on a regular dvd, it works fine.

does this have somethign to do with the fact the 5071 isnt 1080p? is it feeding back and freaking out the dvd player? will this happen with all blueray players?
is there even a point to have a blueray player if i cant see 1080p?

Sounds like either the Blu Ray player is malfunctioning or some settings are wrong in the player or receiver. I have the same set with a Pioneer Elite receiver and a PS3 all hooked up with HDMI in and out of the receiver and it works flawlessly sending a 1080p signal to the TV.
