So im thinking of getting either the Hitachi P50S602 or the P5X902 but I'm wondering if anyone knows the major difference between the two to justify the price differences.
The things i notice is the 902 has some feature called Reel 60 and it also has a ambient sensor option, and also some color adjustment option. Other than that I cannot see anything (atleast to me) that would really justify a 1,000 dollar differance. Unless anyone cant point out anything i didnt notice.
I plan on hooking up a XBOX 360 Elite, HD Tivo, and Blue ray player to the TV.
I'd like to know the difference too, but there doesn't seem to be a big interest in Hitachi. I know they have a bad rap on service, but has that changed? I've also heard that the new 02 series has deeper blacks than Panasonic and very close to Pioneer?
Sure would like to know a little more about the new Hitachi's before Black Friday

I believe the "X" designation still signifies Hitachi's Director's Series, which is their top of the line product. You get an extensive set of picture adjustment options, which makes it ideal for ISF calibration. I'm guessing there is also a different screen coating to enhance blacks and contrast, as well as numerous other convenience features. Aesthetically, it should also be a step up in terms of design and quality of materials. I have a 2006 Director's Series (55HDX99), which has, in addition to other features not found on other models, custom colour temperature and "Film Quality Image Tuning". The latter feature gives the picture a smoother and more film-like appearance. The Reel 60 processing has been very well received by reviewers. I have not seen one of the new Director's Series sets, but I'm guessing they will be absolutely fantastic with movies. Black levels are supposedly much improved - almost at 8G Kuro levels - and Hitachi has always had excellent processing and colour accuracy. I think they have always been very competitive; just not very well-known in North America.
Whether you spend the extra $1K depends, I think, on how much you value the ability to finely adjust the picture and how much of your time is spent watching movies. Sound and Vision has a very good review of the 902 this month - check it out.

I currently have the 50a402... and i love it.. i did a a/b comparison with a th-50pz80u and in my opinion the hitachi had much deeper blacks and a smoother picture... now with that said i have the p60x901 in our store and it looks AMAZING! didn't do hardly any adjustments to it, but out of the box it looked very comparable to the PRO 151fd... and alot cheaper.. if the 902 is in your budget.. i'd get it

The P60X901 is supposedly a fabulous set - save for weak blacks that are not indicative of a "premium" plasma. If the new 02 series has blacks that are as good as Panasonic's, it should be a real winner.
