I just bought a Toshiba HD TV and hooked it up to my Panasonic DMR-ES40V.
I want to record NFL games.
I then realize the Panasonic has no digital inputs I can hook it up with my DirecTV H20 to record.
So I'm looking for a new DVD recorder.
I have the H20 connected to the HD TV with a HDMI cable.
I see the H20 has a S-Video output (with red and white audio output).
I take it I can record DTV programming with the recorder as I'm watching it on the TV with the HDMI?
I don't plan on trying to watch one channel while recording another.
All I want to do is record what I'm watching.
Anyone have any recommendations for what kind of DVD recorder to buy?
I'm looking to stay around $150 and saw the Toshiba DR 400 or 410 have S-Video inputs and red and white audio inputs. I take it that would work to record DirecTV while I'm watching it on the HD?
Thanks for any ideas/help/advice.

Just connect your ES40 as shown in sketch #2 here. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=12298409&postcount=10)

If you want a DVDR with digital tuners, click #1 in my signature. However, with sat service, the tuners would only be useful if you also connected cable or OTA antenna directly to the DVDR as an alternate TV source... DVDR tuners can't tune a sat signal directly.

If you don't need a tuner the Toshibas will do what you want, record the game from Directv as you watch it. I have some nitpicks with them but they probably wouldn't bother you. When you set the timer they have 1 Hr, 2 Hr, 4 Hr, 6 Hr, 8 Hr settings. My other units have 1 Hr, 2 Hr, 2.5 Hr, 3 Hr, 4 Hr, 6 Hr which to me is much more useful for movies etc. Also they only have one rear composite input and one front. Other than that they are nice for the price. You can get a Magnavox at Walmart for $100 when they're in stock.

Thank you! Thank you!, Thank You!
It works!
You saved me $100 + from buying a new DVDR.
I forgot about the front inputs since they're covered.
The only issue I had was changing the DVDR's input, the first time, it was all snow, after re-reading your chart, I figured out what I did wrong.
Second time, was successful.
Thank you again!
