I have 2 ps3's and am trying to serve my home videos via my computer to them. I have it working in general, but am having issues. I'm using windows media player 11 on vista.

I'm having several issues....

Issue #1:
I tried to get my old home videos on dvd to stream to the ps3. The home videos are in video_ts format with .vob files. The DVD's contain 2 hours of video and are about 4.2GB in size total. I used a program called vob2mpg to create a .mpg file that is just over 4gb in size. I can play the .mpg's on any computer in my network fine by double clicking on the file. When I do the same on either of my ps3's the video will play for a few seconds and then freeze up. If I rename the first .vob file, I forget the name, it's something _01 to an .mpg extension, I can play this file fine on a ps3. If I do the same with the _02,_03,etc..., it doesn't play on a pc or ps3. What do I need to do to see mny home videos on a ps3? I know I can insert the dvds directly into the ps3 and it works. I want to be able to stream from my pc.

Issue #2:
I just bought a canon hf100 camera. Very nice. It creates files in a directory structure that have private at the root and if I navigate down a few levels, there's a folder called stream that contains a bunch of .mts files. Each file is for each scene. If I rename the files to .mpg they play fine on my pc (A little jumpy) and ps3. The problem is I don't want to have to select each scene to play. Is there a way to create larger files that contain many, or preferably, all scenes in the folder?

Issue #3:
I have some .jpg pictures that are shared from my pc. If my ps3 video output is set to 480p, I can load these pictures fine. I discovered this by accident. Not sure why my video was set to 480p. Sometimes ps3 does this. If my video is set to either 1080p or 1080i, the .jpg files don't show up in the ps3 menu. It gives a message like 'No content found' or something like that. What do I need to do to view the pictures in 1080 modes?

I know this is long. Any help is appreciated. If I need to buy software, that's fine, but of course I would prefer freeware.
Also, if there's a better forum to post this, please let me know.

For single VOB file, just rename it to mpg and play. For multiple VOBs, the easiest is to use DVD Shrink to re-author it. Shrink it down to one VOB; or if the movies are in individual parts, select the selected parts and shrink it to inidividual VOBs. Then rename to mpgs and play.

The problem is I don't want to have to select each scene to play. Is there a way to create larger files that contain many, or preferably, all scenes in the folder?

Use your bundled Pixela Imagemixer. Select movie edit, just drag and drop all the clips you want into the timeline. If you don't want to add any transition effect or titling, then click save and you get one m2ts file. It does smart rendering and the whole process would only take minutes (depending on length and number of clips). PS3 will play m2ts file directly.

I am not sure about this. I myself use Twonky Media in my NAS, and it automatically identifies all picture/video/media files; and I have no problem with any jpgs or with any video modes.

Thanks for the response.

I tried combining all the vob's on a dvd to one vob and rename it mpg and It played much better. I would need to sit through an entire 2 hour home video to make sure all the pieces joind together, but it didn't freeze up after a couple of minutes. I downloaded a free vob joiner program. I'm glad the solution is easy.

I didn't have muich time to spend on this last night. I just received a 500GB hard drive and 2 of my sata ports aren't working. It's a Dell. I assume there a bios setting for it that I wasn't able to quickly locate. If I have time tonight, i'll see if I can combine the .mts files via Pixela. I wish I could just merge the files together via copy /b. I tried it and the first clip played fine and then froze at the beginning of the second clip.
