I just recently got into the digital world:

I just picked up a toshiba 26" 720p/1080i HDTV lcd, now have digital/hd cable service and an wow internet hd dvr. I also just added a phillips upconvert dvd player.

My hd channels (the networks and few local channels) are mind blowing clear, the analog/upconverted to digital channels and my true digital channels are not so clear.

My DVR is broadcasting everything in 1080i, my tv set is 720p native but can also take 1080i, if i could switch my dvr to output 720p instead of 1080i would that make the picture clearer on my tv or not?

Also in general is 720p a better picture than 1080i?

Thanx
TC

The battle continues as to which is preferred...

Generally speaking, if much what you watch has a lot of fast moving scenes (sports, action movies, etc.), 720p will probably appear better. If not, 1080i may be the setting for you.

....and in general, anything non-HD displayed on a 16:9 screen isn't going to look all that hot, esp. compared to an HD source..

You know, I used to think 720p was better for me, but I've since been trying both (DVD player does upscaling for me, and does it on the fly with one button on the remote). I haven't noticed much difference.
