View Full Version : Comcast remote won't recognize component inputs
browninm 09-09-08, 09:32 AM In TV mode, my Comcast 3in1 remote control cycles through the standard Video 1, 2, 3 and S-video inputs for my Samsung TXR2678WH TV when I press the TV/VCR input button, but never gives component 1 (where I have the HD STB connected) or other sources (e.g. HDMI) as input options. I have to go back to the Samsung remote and select the TV/Comp input button to make the switch to component1. Any way to program the Comcast remote to recognize these other inputs so I can use just one remote? I'd hate to have to switch my component cables to S-video just to use a single remote. Thanks for any help you can offer!
There is ONE other option, from Harmony.
Kupakai 09-09-08, 12:34 PM Assuming you are using setup code TV/0702, TV/10702, or TV/10812, try this to add TV/Comp function to your Comcast remote (if you are using a different setup code, the number in step 5 might be different, so post what setup code you are using for the TV):
1. Press and release TV device key
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 994
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type 00171
6. Press and release the button you want to set the function to (for example, maybe HELP, or one of the PIP buttons on the bottom if you are not using them)
The remote should blink twice. Now if you press the key you programmed in step 6, it should function the same way as the TV/Comp key in the OEM remote.
You should be able to also program in discrete input functions so that the TV will go directly to the input source without cycling through, if you want. Follow the steps above, and use the codes below in step 5 for each of the functions:
Comp-1 = 00190
Comp-2 = 00061
DVI = 00063
S-Video-1 = 00192
S-Video-2 = 00080
Video-1 = 00188
Video-2 = 00083
Video-3 = 00076
PC = 00073
HDMI 1 = 00067
HDMI 2 = 00014
You may not have all the inputs above since I got them from a list of generic Samsung codes.
browninm 09-09-08, 09:27 PM Thanks guys. Yeah, I should probably look into a Harmony. But I'm gonna try kupakai's suggestions first. I've been using 0060 for the samsung setup code, but I've tried 0702 before and I believe this will work as well. I'll play with this some tonight and let you know how it turns out. Thanks so much for your willingness to help out........
browninm 09-09-08, 09:35 PM Kupakai's the master! Thought it would take a ton of time to mess with, but it worked like a charm right off the bat. I've read a bunch of your solutions while researching this, and you've helped lots of people get through these frustrating problems. You're the best, dude!
Kupakai 09-09-08, 11:45 PM I've been using 0060 for the samsung setup code, but I've tried 0702 before and I believe this will work as well.
FYI, Either TV/0060 or TV/0702 will work with Samsung TVs for most functions, but only one of those will work correctly for repeating functions when the button is held, like volume control. The two setup codes use closely related ir signal, but differ in how the repeated signals are sent. Check the repeating functions first, and use the one that works correctly and then do the steps above. The advanced codes are the same for both.
Librarian88 09-10-08, 12:01 PM I would like to set PIP buttons on my comcast dvr remore for my samsung tv. Does anyone know those codes?
Kupakai 09-10-08, 03:12 PM I would like to set PIP buttons on my comcast dvr remore for my samsung tv. Does anyone know those codes?
Follow the steps above and use these codes in step 5:
pip on/off = 00213
pip chan up = 00151
pip chan down = 00155
Librarian88 09-14-08, 01:27 PM Thanks Kupakai - that was just brilliant!
Do you have the code for moving the PIP as well?
Legweb215 08-08-10, 02:24 AM I was wondering, where can I find this list of generic codes for Samsung TVs? I've spent hours combing through these threads and doing google searchs with nothing to show for it. I'm trying to find all the codes to program all the buttons to do what I want. Thanks for your help.
3FingeredGlove 08-08-10, 03:01 AM I'll assume you using a red OK/Select button Comcast remote. If not, tell us what remote you're using.
See post #13 in this thread about Samsung discretes (http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-discrete/thread.cgi?keywords=2704).
You'll need to prepend two zeros to the three digit EFCs listed there.
Also, the Lookup Tool (http://hifi-remote.com/jp1/lookup/)can tell you many of the EFCs that are programmed into the Comcast remote at the factory, assuming you know the setup code you're using. Drop the leading digit (1) of the TV setup code.
If you need any others, tell us the model of your TV. Also use the search function at RemoteCentral. The codes listed there are mostly in Pronto Hex format, but we can convert them to EFC format.
Legweb215 08-08-10, 03:18 AM Sorry about that, I should have been more specific. I have the 3-in-1 Comcast remote with the red ok/select button. The tv is a Samsung LN40A500 and I used the code 10702. Only the basics work with that code like power, volume, channel and tv/vcr button. I tried the 10060 code with the same results.
My goal is to program the menu, pip, tools, ect. buttons. Thank you for your suggestions. I'm going to give them a shot and see if I can figure it out.
Update: Those site are way above my tech level. After staring at the screen for five minutes, I knew that I didn't have a clue as to what I'm doing.

Legweb215 08-08-10, 05:23 AM Thank you very much!!! These are perfect. Every code that I needed and wanted is working flawlessly. Again, thanks for your hard work.
xfigther 11-23-10, 08:16 PM You guys obviously know what you're talking about. I have two questions I am in need of answers to. First off, I was wondering is there was a way to plug in my DVD to my comcast cable box, because I have no other inputs available on my tv. If there is which (front or back) should I use, and how would I switch between these inputs. Thank you to whoever helps me out.
