View Full Version : Comcast remote won't recognize component inputs

In TV mode, my Comcast 3in1 remote control cycles through the standard Video 1, 2, 3 and S-video inputs for my Samsung TXR2678WH TV when I press the TV/VCR input button, but never gives component 1 (where I have the HD STB connected) or other sources (e.g. HDMI) as input options. I have to go back to the Samsung remote and select the TV/Comp input button to make the switch to component1. Any way to program the Comcast remote to recognize these other inputs so I can use just one remote? I'd hate to have to switch my component cables to S-video just to use a single remote. Thanks for any help you can offer!

There is ONE other option, from Harmony.

Assuming you are using setup code TV/0702, TV/10702, or TV/10812, try this to add TV/Comp function to your Comcast remote (if you are using a different setup code, the number in step 5 might be different, so post what setup code you are using for the TV):

1. Press and release TV device key
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 994
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type 00171
6. Press and release the button you want to set the function to (for example, maybe HELP, or one of the PIP buttons on the bottom if you are not using them)
The remote should blink twice. Now if you press the key you programmed in step 6, it should function the same way as the TV/Comp key in the OEM remote.

You should be able to also program in discrete input functions so that the TV will go directly to the input source without cycling through, if you want. Follow the steps above, and use the codes below in step 5 for each of the functions:

Comp-1 = 00190
Comp-2 = 00061
DVI = 00063
S-Video-1 = 00192
S-Video-2 = 00080
Video-1 = 00188
Video-2 = 00083
Video-3 = 00076
PC = 00073
HDMI 1 = 00067
HDMI 2 = 00014

You may not have all the inputs above since I got them from a list of generic Samsung codes.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I should probably look into a Harmony. But I'm gonna try kupakai's suggestions first. I've been using 0060 for the samsung setup code, but I've tried 0702 before and I believe this will work as well. I'll play with this some tonight and let you know how it turns out. Thanks so much for your willingness to help out........

Kupakai's the master! Thought it would take a ton of time to mess with, but it worked like a charm right off the bat. I've read a bunch of your solutions while researching this, and you've helped lots of people get through these frustrating problems. You're the best, dude!

FYI, Either TV/0060 or TV/0702 will work with Samsung TVs for most functions, but only one of those will work correctly for repeating functions when the button is held, like volume control. The two setup codes use closely related ir signal, but differ in how the repeated signals are sent. Check the repeating functions first, and use the one that works correctly and then do the steps above. The advanced codes are the same for both.

Follow the steps above and use these codes in step 5:

pip on/off = 00213
pip chan up = 00151
pip chan down = 00155

Thanks Kupakai - that was just brilliant!
Do you have the code for moving the PIP as well?
