I have a fairly unique situation, I am replacing a 3 eyed monster, I have a built in 90" 4:3 screen, but I only have 140" from the screen to the wall behind it, so not unlike politics, I have to make a choice of the lesser of two evils. I know several people have been very happy with the sharp xr-10, and several of those will work however the Optoma EP7155 has an HDMI input and the lamps appears to be less expensive to replace

Any ways, the budget is tight so I don't want to get a PJ that I hate but when looking for PJs I can afford that will fill my screen, the choices are very limited

tagging along, I see 3 votes for the sharp but no reasons why

All other things being equal, I've read quite a lot of different posts from people who've had issues with Optoma projectors and/or support. I haven't had experience with either first hand, but I'd have a little more piece of mind with the Sharp.

I voted for the Sharp but would really recommend the newer XR-30X. It has the same 1024X768 native resolution, does great with native 4:3 material, but is also dynamite with 16:9 and even 'scope formats. We have one in our theater projecting onto a 115" at about 14" and totally love it. It has the newer lamp (longer lasting than the original XR-10X), has more light output, and has DVI inputs as well as component. Price is about 6 bills and you can get a great warranty (including bulb replacement one time) from the box store with the initials CC. We have about 400 hours on ours since December and have found NO issues. Since we are horizontally limited we get the best of all formats in our room.

cool, what is the difference between the XR30X and XR20X? the is a different throw ratio and the 30X will give me no room in the back for a connector where as the 20X will give about 17" according to http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sharp_PG_Series-XR-20X-projection-calculator-pro.htm

update, it looked great... well not a CRT, but better, much better than I feared... unfortunately it just went pop and will not turn on any more... :(
