View Full Version : Philips 3575/3576 VS. Panasonic DMR-EZ485VPK Howard Kaikow 09-09-08, 06:19 PM Is there a thread comparing Philips 3575/3576 VS. Panasonic DMR-EZ485VPK? Rammitinski 09-09-08, 06:58 PM There is now. jjeff 09-09-08, 07:42 PM This thread talks about some of the differences between the EZ-28 without VHS and the Philips. Since the combo is quite different that the VHS less but HDD equipped Philips I can't think of a thread directly comparing the 2. Some of the threads talking about converting VHS to DVD touch on the benefits of the HDD and recording quality of the Pannys. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1062931 Howard Kaikow 09-09-08, 10:44 PM To clarify: I want: 1. A digital tuner that can process HD signals picked up from Comcast. 2. HDMI from DVD recorder to TV. 3. Since I rarely save what I record, it makes sense to use a hard drive, instead of DVD +RW, to record and delete 4. The ability to record on any DVD media. 5. I would need VHS only to play tapes from my VCRs on other TVs, if I choose to do so. 6. As we speak, I am copying a VHS to DVD -R media. Likely the only tape I'd wish to copy. Not sure what other signiicant differences there might be between recorders. Rammitinski 09-10-08, 03:49 AM No such animal. There are ones that have everything but the hard drive. There used to be combo's (like the Panasonic 80 GB HDD EH75V) which had everything but the digital tuner, but when they had to add that, they stopped making any with hard drives. Closest you'll get now is to use the Philips/Magnavox with a separate VCR. jjeff 09-10-08, 02:18 PM Agreed, but note the Philips will not record to DL or RAM discs it that matters. It will play DL discs however. Note depending on your cable co. you may just receive the local HD channels with your QAM digital tuner. The similar Magnavox w/hdd may also work for you. Rammitinski 09-10-08, 02:21 PM Agreed, but note the Philips will not record to DL or RAM discs it that matters. It will play DL discs however.Well, then - how about the EZ48 paired with one of those thousand dollar 80 GB Gefen PVR's those suckers bought into over in the HDTV Recorders forum? ;) jjeff 09-10-08, 02:37 PM I sure hope the TR-50 doesn't turn out like that Gefen POS. One big reason to let others be the guinea pigs. For the OP I'd really suggest the 3576 and a standalone VCR, and pray he gets a good QAM tuner. DLs aren't that big of a deal anyway and with the HDD, RAMs aren't as important either. Rammitinski 09-10-08, 02:41 PM One big reason to let others be the guinea pigs. For $1000.00, and with an 80 GB hard drive () that was an easy decision to make. Yeah, speaking of the TR-50, don't know if you were hinting at it, but he could wait for that, and pair it with the EZ48 (or another combo), too. Mighty expensive solution, though, and he might be waitin' forever. (And I totally agree that DL discs are a very overrated concept.) CitiBear 09-10-08, 03:02 PM Don't hold your breath for reliable "picking up of HD broadcasts from my Comcast cable system". Cable is doing everything it can to stall and destroy QAM. Box-less cable will soon be a thing of the past, I wouldn't stake my choice of recorder on how well it picks up cable with its own tuner: that ability can be terminated at the whim of your cable service. The ATSC transition is the biggest opportunity they've ever had to force everyone onto a box, don't think for a minute they aren't seizing it with gusto (FCC be damned). Kelson 09-10-08, 03:16 PM (And I totally agree that DL discs are a very overrated concept.)Don't say that. I just bought a spindle of Verbatims to play with. PJM361 09-11-08, 12:03 AM I want to use DL disc so I can record in the highest PQ for long movies & sports. I was discussing this on another thread and was told the 3575 won't do DL. I decided to search the Philips european websites and found several that will burn to DL. wajo told me the US version wouldn't but, I was wondering if anyone actually tried. Or is the burner in Ireland's 3575H different & would I be able to somehow use it here in the USA region 1. I also checked the Canadian website but, it doesn't say it's DL capable. Here is the website http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/ie/consumer/cc/_productid_DVDR3575H_05_IE_CONSUMER/Hard-Disk-DVD-Recorder+DVDR3575H-05 PJM361 09-12-08, 03:16 PM I check redtag and it said only 7% left and in a panic got the last one. Because I still haven't decided whether or not to keep my Panasonic DMR-EA 18 (still sitting in the box) or the 3575. I guess I'm going to keep the Philips because I'm too cheap to pay the return shipping:o |
