I have a Toshiba D-VR5SU VCR-DVD recorder and up to this point no complaints. However the unit started to give me error messages, when I insert a blank -R disc it takes a while to read then tells me that there is an INCORRECT DISC C106, if I push the record button it tells me CANNOT RECORD C206. I also tried recorded DVDs that I had played and the same message. I tried the factory initialize to no effect. Contacted Toshiba to no avail except to bring it to a service center at $139.95 to look at it, it is out of warrantee by 3 months. Any ideas or should I just by a new one that does more at $169.95 (Samsung)

Try resetting the unit: With power on, and in DVD mode, then press & hold CH-UP & PLAY buttons at the same time for approx 5 seconds. Unit will reinitialize all settings, then shut itself off. Then turn the unit on and try a fresh disc.
