View Full Version : iTunes album artwork

I'm trying to resolve a 'minor' issue using NAS (Tcapsule) based media files accessed by multiple macs.

Problem: I made a point on my primary Mac to 'get all the artwork' for every album in the library - Every listing (song or album) now displays the correct artwork. This is especially nice in the new iTunes 8 matrix view.
But - On the other macs, the artwork is not always shown - most is, but not all.

It looks to me like when I add the artwork manually, it's stored with the file as metadata; but some artwork (retrieved from iTunes perhaps) is not stored with the file but in the iTunes / Album Artwork folder (although it's encoded so I can't verify it easily).

My question: Does anybody know just how this works? And if I'm right, is there a way to move the artwork into the media file's metadata so all other macs can display it?

Ken,

You are right, the artwork that is downloaded from the iTunes store is indeed stored outside of the file metadata - but it can be put back in via an AppleScript called Embed Artwork available at dougscripts dot com (sorry, can't post a link yet).

Note - I haven't tested this with iTunes 8, but it has worked through multiple previous versions.
