Hey everyone,

I'm just starting to "take back" my HT room from my two boys. Up till now its mostly been a play room with some old equipment to setup the Wii and such.

The room is very odd shaped and will definitely need some acoustical treatments. The first area I was going to look at was some hollow openings above where my speakers will sit.

If you look at the image above you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. The area above the arches is open and there have quite a bit of "echo". I'm wondering if I should just fill these with insulation or if there is something better.

I'm also looking for suggestions for covering whatever I put in there. I've read elsewhere that using a burlap works well (especially if you are looking at just doing panels.

Thanks

Insulation would be fine, as would burlap. There are lots of fabric choices though...Gilford of Maine is a popular choice, but anything that you can blow through easily will work.

It's usually not a great idea to put speakers in a recessed location like that if you can avoid it though.

Weasel9992,

Fora nice rectangular area like this >> You may wanto consider A Roul type Mineral Wool - especially if you have a Menards home improvement store in your area. The bigger Menards sell it for about ~30.00 a bale, and with an electric turkey carver would be easy to cut to fit.

(You would have to support it form the underside with some furring strips > perhaps using the same furring strips to stretch your fabric to?)

Thanks for the feedback! I realize the this isn't an ideal setup, but its what I have to work with for now. I'm just looking at how to make the most of it.
