channels broadcasting in non-hd are not fitting correctly. ie. too zoomed in, (the crawl on news stations is half covered)

the remote control has been lost by someone. we've been getting by fine using the dtv remote for everything. TIL NOW!

now, i've tried getting into the settings menu from the button on front of the tv...cant fix the issue, grrr

is it aspect ratio, is it ___ ? ??? i just have no clue

TIA

Get a universal remote, program it and change the aspect setting.

JohnC,
I believe your seing your TV overscaning (zooming in) its input and AFAIK there is no capability in the HL-R models to disable the overscan.

Thats wild! Sounds right because I was able to change the "Aspect ratios" from the controls on the front of the tv. Did not help.

The few % of overscan wouldn't block bottom 'tickers'.

Are these 'analog' stations, or 'digital'?

Normal Samsung overscan is 5-6% and on my HL-P model it does cover half of the stock ticker on the financial site I use since the financial site does not compensate for the fact that Overscan may be being applied.

my HL-S's overscan affects bottom crawls

digital... all through my Directv hd receiver. HD channels look perfect, non-hd broadcasts have big overscan. Like I couldnt see the scoreboard on a cubs game on WGN...or can only see the top 10% over the news ticker...its annoying and now a big blame game has started in the house lol :(

What resolution are you outputting the non SD 4:3 aspect ratio programs in to your HDTV?
Also what interface are you using from your STB to your HDTV?

How about a OTA signal through the internal tuner? Have you tried that? Do you have a antenna?
