View Full Version : Help Me decide which 1080P DLP to buy!
cingular#1 09-13-08, 12:51 PM So i want the best 1080p DLP at 70"+. I was looking at the samsung HL72A650. Anyone have any other suggestions. I haven't looked into Mitsubishi. Which one? Samsung or the Mitsu?
Thanks in advance
EDIT
ok guys its down the the WD73736 VS HL72A650
I know that the HL is older tech and uses the dc3 Chip correct?
So which one has the better PQ?
Thanks
I don't care about Features, but PIP would be nice

for 70" or more i would go with mits WD73735 or WD73736 simply because they use the DC4 chip

seggers 09-13-08, 07:04 PM I'm buying the diamond 73 (73835). Can be had for less than 2900 and is their top set.
Forget the LV for now. Too new and too expensive....

Its your money and no one will treat it as well as you do.
Read the different threads on the different sets. Read what people are saying and post question to follow up on them. Decide which features you need and those you don't need. Find out the hidden gotchas of the set. Decide on your top 2 or 3 potential choices and go out to a store to view them in person.
Asking a question as you have here is no better than walking into Best Buy or Circuit City (or Walmart) and saying what is your best set. You will end up with many fanboys who need nothing more than reinforcing their belief that they purchased the right set.
What's right for them very easily might not be what's right for you.

3 color wheel vs 6 color wheel
dc3 vs dc4
Quentin2 09-16-08, 12:53 PM C1, BeachComber gave you great advice, I'd start reading the threads on DLPs. If you wait too long you're setting yourself up for a mistake. And you've got to go look and decide about PQ firsthand... Personally I think the HL72A650 has a better picture but you must decide for yourself.

have to ask it since you said it.... how do you go about comparing PQ, when (at least near me) all the best buys and circuit citys have different sources feeding different dlps and they wont change them or give you the remote to adjust the settings?
one of the best buys i went to actually had DLP on a rack 10ft in the air playing content. why on earth they would do that i have no idea.
Quentin2 09-16-08, 02:04 PM My BB used to have the DLPs close together with the same signal and you could ask for a remote which helped in comparisons. Now they've moved the Sammys and Mits DLPs apart so it's harder to compare. I suppose you can still borrow the remotes, depending on who you ask. I haven't tried since I bought my A650.
Our Fred Meyer had a Sony 55A2000 RPTV up about six feet. Pretty nice closeout sale for $850 yet no one was buying them. Wonder why! :D Told my friends who were looking because it was a steal if you didn't need 1080p.
