i would like to record the jet training exercises at night, however they dont have any lights on when training but you can see them when they come down low and the flares lanching at each other. with a full moon you can really see them much better.

i have a spotter scope 30x90x100mm that iv been using it can also have a camra or recorder attached to it. so im looking into getting a camcorder to attach to it, the lens must be between 28 and 48 mm or it will not fit, can someone advies please as i know nothing about camcorders.

A consumer camcorder attached to your scope will not have enough light. Picture will be pretty bad, almost for sure.

Professional cameras can use very fast lenses and do the job but we are now talking about a high budget. Prosumer cameras will perform much better than consumer and they normally have a very good lens. If you can spend more than 3K, the Canon XH-A1 comes with a very powerful zoom lens (equivalent to 650mm on a 35mm camera) and also very fast (1.6). Depending on your "full moon" light, it can also do the job.

Your case is interesting: You need a very fast lens but also a powerful zoom . A telephoto lens needs much more light than a wide-angle one. A high quality tripod is also a must in your case. Good luck!

Sony HVR-V1U

Excellent lens and good on low light. Same price range.

Sony VX2100? It's a standard definition camcorder, considered by many to be the best for low light, however I'm not sure what your really need.

"to record the jet training exercises at night, however they dont have any lights on when training but you can see them when they come down low and the flares lanching at each other. with a full moon you can really see them much better." Is not going to be easy to do.

just curious, what would a hd camcorder with manual control be capable of? Jets at a distance will be blips, but if you could catch them doing touch-and-go's (over runway), some detail would be there with the jet's afterburner kicking in.
