Hi,

I desperately need some help as I am a total noob at this...

I am trying to burn hi def quality dvd discs for playback on my Panny BD30.

I have a Canon hv30 mini DV and the Vegas Movie Studio platinum 9.0. I am capturing video in 1440x1080 29.970i.

After capture, I select "burn disc" from the toos menu, then "bluray disc" and a window pops up with options. I select "MainConcept MPEG-2(mpg, m2v, m2t, mpa) under Video Format, then right underneath I select "bluray 1440x1080-60i, 25Mbps video stream" under Video Template, Audio Format is "sony Wave64, Audio Template is "48000Hz, 16bit, Stereo, PCM" and finally "Description" shows video at 29.976fps, 1440x1080.

So I'm trying to burn this to a regular dvd, as I understand that it's possible to do so. The disc burns ok without errors, but when I try to play it in the Panny bd30 the Panny returns an "unsupported format" error. Hitting the "display" button on the Panny shows that it sees the disc as an avchd disc...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

The BD30 does not recognize Sony Wav64 as a valid audio option, and it does not recognize hi def on normal dvd media as a "blu Ray" disk.

You will have to create a avchd disk with AC3 audio. It is possible to do mpeg2 as a BDAV disk....but you can get more on the disk with avchd.

Thanks...

Can I do the above avchd/AC3 or the mpeg2 BDAV with Vegas? If not, what is a decent software that can do what I need? I tried Ulead and I couldn't even get to the capture point, that's how buggy it is...

I burn BD disks on regular DVD media and they play fine on my BD30. I can use both the Ulead VS11.5 + or the Vegas Pro 8. You can't use Sony Vegas WAv64, as bigbarney said, just select PCM instead. With Vegas I can't author a disk with menus but with VS11.5+ it works perfectly. One more thing: I had to upgrade the firmware on the BD30 to use the menu, otherwise only disks without menu could be read.

Thanks slimoli,

On my Vegas Platinum 9.0 I only have the Wav64 option:confused:. As far as the other settings, do you use "mainconcept" or "sony avd"?? And which formats, 60 or 50i?
