What's the difference between a
SA 8300DVR and a SA 8240HDC?

Which is the latest model or more preferable?

I believe the newer model is a cost-reduced version that eliminated the analog tuner, it only works with digital channels while the older SA8300HD supported both analog and digital channels. Many cable systems are now simulcasting the analog channels on digital channels so they work with the newer boxes. No improvements to the user from what I've heard, just saves the cable system money when they buy the boxes. I've heard the older model is actually more reliable and runs smoother, I have an SA8300HD that still works great and I'm not going to trade it in

I'm not sure if there's other differences between the 2 boxes, possibly hard drive sizes, but the 8240HDC is the newer model and uses a cable card instead of integrated security following the FCC requirement. All cable set top boxes manufactured after July 1, 2007 have a cable card in them.
