I had something like this happen. Did you install the latest software update? That fixed the screen problems I was getting. The update is really weird. You have to have the file after updating to complete the update. I kept getting a message that an update was available every time I restarted tha application. You have to save the file before exiting. You can also reset the remote my pushing on a mini button that you can see on a circuit board below the battery compartment.

Welcome to the incredibly unintuitive MX-810 software. The remote is great, but I wish somebody would deep six the software and start over from scratch.

Wow. You are right. Live and learn. The MX-880 looks really good, but it seems that only professional installers get access to the software.

I would like a remote like the MX810/880 that allows you to program everything without a computer. It would be cool if you could also give it firmware updates to ge the latest device support. Or better yet, how about a remote that you could program with either a computer or directly.

If you want a remote like that, its called the Sony RM-AV3000 Remote Commander.. Point and Shoot Piece of Junk.

The 810 and 880 are basically the same remote, where the 810 is more for your entry level customers with simplistic control, and the mx880 is a highly customizable device for more complex control jobs, where you would employ serial control, their RF lighting Control , etc.

The internal architecture of the 810 and 880 are quite different. The 880 is a color Both will work with the new lutron RF light switches and both can work with a msc-400 for serial control.

The 450 is direct programable, no pc needed.
