i puchased the following mount

http://www.techcraft.net/filesUpload/Assembly%20Instructions/PLM50%20FI%2000.R0_4500002890.pdf

it attaches to the back of a entertainment center. the idea is great, i don't really need the tv on a wall, but the mount raises the tv up so i can put the center channel under it.

however, i have one issue. the brackets that attach to the back of the tv are bolted to it. yet when those brackets are put onto the horizonal crossbar of the mount that weight of the tv causes it to slide down to the bottom of the brackets.

easy you say, tighten the bolts more. yes?

how tight is too tight? do i tighten these things down as much as i can, i don't want to crack the tv by bolting them down soooooo hard. what am i missing here?

I would seek guidance from a professional on this one. Particularly if it is a expensive flat panel TV. Call the TV company customer service rep or the rack customer service rep first. Then, contact a custom installer that sells that model TV and compare their answers. This would be a good start.

Agreed. Find a professional installer, no not the guys from BB or CC, those guys are not professional.

I mean people who do this type of thing for a living and it is their career, not just a job. Typically you can find such people at a dealership associations, phone book, even here on the AVS forum.

Personally, I don't think a CE Pro is needed to screw some bolts into the back of a TV. Tighten them a little more than the point at which the TV slid. Sometimes with a little wrench it seems like you are really applying a lot of force. I would get a larger allen wrench and snug it up a bit.
