View Full Version : what to run between TV & AV rack

not sure of the best place to post this - hoping this crew can provide good input...

I'm going to be setting up a small "theater" in my game room and will be putting the AV equipment in an in-wall rack remote from the TV. Probably about 15-20 linear feet away (as the wire would need to run). The TV will be wall mounted and we'll have a small "stand" below it for visual balance as well as some general storage - but I don't intend to locate any specific equipment there other than perhaps a gaming system if it becomes a requirement.

I'll obviously locate power at the TV set, and plan to run HDMI & CAT-5 for Ethernet. What else should I absolutely run, and what would be "nice to have" - i.e. should I run Component & line-level audio, should I run a TOS-Link for tv-output back to the Amp, etc? I may run a USB cable from below the TV (at stand level) back to the AV rack, but I'm not certain this will or won't be too long - need to check linear lenghts closely.

I'd rather spend a few extra $$s now while I'm running cables and have easy access to the back of the TV wall, but don't want to throw $$s down the drain on cables I'll never use, or that would be problematic due to the distances.

thanks in advance.

just run a conduit. That way if you ever need to pull something, you can!

I'm also a huge fan of conduit. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
