I will have my cable box and all other components in a separate room from my tv. The TV will be the only device in the 'theatre'.
I understand that with the harmony 890 the rf is omnidirectional and i wont need line of sight for my components, as long as i use the transmitter.

what i dont understand is, how can i set this up so that the 890 will also control my tv.

Im assuming the transmitter need to be placed in the room where my components are located, and the IR leads pointed towards them. But how can i work this out so that an IR lead points to the TV?? The wires wont be long enough, and since im doing this all do hide the wires and components, i dont want the IR wire visible.

Any suggesions on what i should do in this case??

The 890 emits IR just like any other remote. You set up the devices to be controlled by either the remote, the RF emitter (port A, B, C, D, or All) or the RF flasher (the unit itself can emit IR).

OK, thats great! So i can still control my tv with the 890, just set it up to transmet to the tv with IR, correct?

I have a similar situation. All my components are in the back of the room, except my projector. The RF extender DOES output IR without the IR extenders plugged in.

I just leave the RF extender in the door of the rack (seen on the rear wall) and point my 890 at the projector to turn it on. The RF extender turns on all my components. Once the PJ is on I do not have to point the remote at anything; the RF extender does all the work. (In my case, I don't have to change inputs on the PJ; it's either on or off. I use my scaler to control sources.)

Yes, the TV will be set to be controlled by the remote directly with IR. Your other components will be controlled by the RF extender.

I think you mean "The RF extender DOES output IR without the RF extender's IR emitters plugged in."

This is the Flasher setting in the extender setup.

Thank you so much for the help guys. bryansj, I really appreciate the info.

c not k, i love your theatre. Is that a picture frame next to the door, or is that a glass window looking into your rack closet?!

Simple question (I hope). I need to control my satellite box in a closed cabinet, and also operate a TV, the sensor for which is covered by a soundbar. I have a third component (dvd player/receiver), but it is not blocked in any way. Can I control all of these with the Harmony 890 out of the box, or will I need to get something else?

The 890 can handle that out of the box. You choose which devices are controlled by emitters or direct IR from the remote.

Thanks for the correction. That was what I was trying to say.

That is the glass door to my equipment rack. I'll update this photo, but my 890's RF extender sits the the door. It can control all my equipment whether the door is open or closed.
