I have a Panasonic PT-60LC14 which I have had since March of 2005. The original lamp is still working although it is starting to dim slightly. A couple of weeks back the lamp indicator turned on with a message that said the lamp was nearing the end of it's life and to replace it. I checked the hours and I assume it was some type of automated message based on hours because the indicator/message came on right at 10,000 hours. Anyway I purchased a new lamp and installed figuring I would keep the original as a backup and to get the most out of the 1 year warranty with the new bulb. The new bulb functioned fine for 2 days and would not light after that. The lamp indicator flashes one time every 5 seconds which is a lamp malfunction or abnormal lamp. The interesting thing is that I put my old/original lamp back in and it works just fine which has been just over a week now. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a PT-50LC14 and am getting ready to do the exact same thing. I am not getting a lamp light, but the original bulb is almost 4 years old with over 8000 hours. I just ordered a new one as a precaution. I am guessing you may have a bad bulb.

Well I am kind of hoping that it is a bad bulb. I have returned the bulb for testing but the person I spoke with told me he thinks it is a ballast that doesn't have enough power to light a new bulb (but did for 2 days) but can light the old bulb which isn't demanding as much power. There are no visible signs that the new bulb blew but I sent it back to be tested anyway.

It is probably the bulb, especially since it did light and then failed. I think the bulbs supplied outside of Panasonic are very questionable in quality, and seem so fragile. If your ballast originally lit the new bulb, it is improbable that your ballast started failing right after that, especially since the old bulb still works.
Just a note, that if it is determined that your ballast is bad, rather than replacing the expensive board (Panasonic LSEB3131A), you can probably use the Panasonic Ballast Repair Kit #LSUC0022 instead at a greatly reduced cost.

Thanks for the info. It's not very often that you hope for a bad bulb.
Hey I have the same problem with my 60. Did the ballast repair kit fix it?
