Those hoping for a new transfer will be disappointed. The edge enhancement is still very much present as well of lack of overall color depth. Many scenes are a big sharp mess.

Luckily this movie was part of the Unrated comedy 3-pack or I would be very disappointed if I wasnt buying mainly for Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up.

So yeah, same crappy transfer.

Pffft. Thanks for the update, just more money to spend on a different title now.

:::scratches 40 Yr Old off the list:::

Yeah, thanks for the report. The movie is one of the best comedies of recent times, but it's not worth spending money on if it looks like absolute ****.

Normally I'd wonder if more DNR and EE was added for the Blu-ray release but with this title I don't think it would be possible to tell. Truly one of the most FUBARed transfers you'll ever see. Just look at it. (http://www.hdmovies.co.nz/hddvd.php?id=40%20Year%20Old%20Virgin)

I wasted money on the HD DVD version. There wasn't one second when this movie didn't look like an overly processed mess.

Knocked Up, on the other hand, looked very good and has hopefully been carried over faithfully to Blu-ray.

I rented the HD DVD, and knew I wouldn't want to buy it. It looked awful on my 100" screen. Yeah, Knocked Up looked excellent. DNR sucks.

I was hoping to replace my DVD but guess I won't now.

I'm not a big expert on the terms and stuff and haven't seen the HD DVD version. I sold my DVD to get this.

So the PQ isn't good at all? How much better does it look compared to the DVD?

I find the comments about 4YV strange. It was always one of the the most vividly real looking DVDs on my plasma, and the HD DVD has looked excellent on the several HD projectors I've viewed it on (in my home).

Weird. Well...at least I'm enjoying it...

this flick suffers from what is happening far too often with Universal and that is a wretched master

Meet the Fockers
40 Year Old Virgin
The Klumps
Traffic

are a few examples of how bad they can get

Does Tremors look good on your setup too? :D

Yea, 40YOV is an edge enhancement mess, but the movie is still great and the best it will look for now. The HBOHD version didn't look any better, IMO.

It makes you wonder how especially a relatively new movie gets such a terrible master. Are they having high school interns do some of these masters?

The movie is one of the best comedies of recent times... If you say so...

Oh, I did say so. I guess gems like Meet the Spartans ought to fit that category instead.

Its sad there is no standard other then a platform for each studio to plop their content. No PQ CQ just plop it on our BD media and we will lable it the best in consumer HD:)

Quick question on the Unrated Comedy Pack (40 Year Old, Knocked Up, and Sarah Marshall), do the movies in the pack contain the theatrical releases as well as the unrated releases? Thanks.

Thanks to all. Canceled the comedy pack and replaced it with Knocked Up, Forbidden Kingdom and The Hulk.

Canceled my order, just picking up Sarah marshall now. I already have both Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin on HD DVD. I was really hoping Universal would do something better with these on Blu-ray. Oh well, more money in my pocket.

They gave the transfer good marks.

I was afraid of this. I guess we'll have to wait a few years until they use a new master? I'll just stick with the crappy DVD for now. :(

I think anyone waiting for a better transfer on this title will wait for a ship that will never come in... I am just thrilled that they have given us the theatrical version, I found the unrated version just unwatchable...
