Recently picked up a panasonic 50px80. Seating is 8-8.5 feet away from screen. Lately, I believe i'm seeing SDE on my set. I'm assuming that a 1080p display would show less of this at same seating distance?

Wow you can see SDE? on my 2007 model panny 42" 720p I game alot and I get as close as 4ft and dont see SDE. I guess by having a 1080p set should provide less or no SDE, and if its that distance or closer 1080p would be useful.

Also I would take SDE any day over motion blurr motion resolution clouds uneven uniformly lack of blacks viewing angle isssues.

Everyone sees SDE differently, Gus and I have the same 720p panasonic, I can see SDE from 6feet or less (I have the set just far enough away that I can't see individual pixels) on a 50 inch 720p set, I can see SDE from almost 10 feet away. A 1080p plasma would probably be your best bet if you can truly see it at that distance.

Honestly though, now that there are so many nice 1080p plasma choices on the market i don't see why anyone would bother getting a 720p set anymore unless it's to save some money. It's not just about the SDE, the 1080p sets also have better processing and an overall smoother and more natural image as well as more settings.

while sde is not that bad on my 720p 8G and does not bother me much, it seems lot worse than my 7G. you have seen all...do you think that is generally the case and are we getting better blacks, to some degree, at the cost of sde??

Looking at the tv in store (its a 50px80) I can't say that I really noticed it. Its only after using the set for a while that my brain clued into the sde.

I think I may need to spend the extra scratch and go for the 1080P model.

while sde is not that bad on my 720p 8G and does not bother me much, it seems lot worse than my 7G.I wonder if the fact that the 8G is brighter that it exposes the black outlines of the pixel grid more than on the 7G? When i crank up the contrast setting on my old 720p PX50U the SDE does look more prevalent.

you have seen all...do you think that is generally the case and are we getting better blacks, to some degree, at the cost of sde??Very possible, especially since you have both those TVs and you have noticed a difference.

The Kuros have a good bit more noise or dithering than other plasmas. It looks a little like SDE, though I don't think that's actually what it is.
