Has anyone experienced, or heard of, any issues with the AT&T U-Verse set top boxes when connected via HDMI? I know several people who have complained that many of the HD channels didn't appear sharp or as good a quality as they were used to. They switched from HDMI cables to Component cables, and things looked significantly better. Is there an issue with the unit? Or is it a configuration issue? Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

The ATT tech mentioned that the picture will freeze with some setups when the box is powered on before the tv. So much so he was reluctant to install with HDMI. I was ready to go with both on each of my HDTVs, but have not had this problem. I have tried to recreate it but so far good luck - the HDMI works fine.
The pq in HD seems less than DISH, still very good but I need to do a direct comparison to be sure. I will be looking at component now that I have read your post, thanks for the suggestion.

I am going to have to agree with the sources you mention. Set up my Samsung LCD with source from Dish and Uverse. Switched both services between component and hdmi, then switched Uverse between component and hdmi.
While overall I felt the Dish HD was better (viewing multiple channels with both) there were times when I forgot which source I was viewing...
The difference between hdmi and component with Uverse was universal in my household. Component was much better, sad to say. The worse factor was dark areas, component was much better. I had the same results with my Panasonic plasma.
Still having audio issues, the 30s to 1min interval dropouts, very short and just noticeable and oh so annoying...

AT&T Tech just left my house and changed out my HDMI to some inexpensive component cables he had in his truck. He said my picture freeze and pixel break were due to HDMI and AT&T Uverse knows they have a problem with HDMI. It's horrific and the problem continued to become more and more chronic. Initially it was random, but now daily if not multiple times during the day. It is also annoying to find the DVR record shows are garbage because of this happening while recording.

I have 3 HDTVs - all SAMSUNG. It seems to be more problematic on my newest acquired Samsung LN52A650.

The quality of the picture and sound from the changes the tech made were so annoying I reverted back to HDMI and will just "deal with it" while I google for other possible options.

I took off work yesterday to have Uverse installed. I have 3 HD tvs. The first thing she told me was that I could only view one HD tv at one dime. Secondly, i have my projector in my home theater set up via HDMI. There is no way around this because I use component for dvd. Well, she told me she wouldnt set it up with HDMI because she didnt want to have to come back out to fix it.

Furthermore, there is only ONE "surround sound" output and its optical! No coaxial output, hdmi out isnt an option, so you better be cloase to your source which mine is 25 feet away from my amp.

Lastly, she tested my phone lines only to tell me that i was too far away from the box anyway. OOOMMGGGGG WHY DID THEIR SALES PEOPLE COME TO MY HOUSE THEN!

i hate at&ts cell phone service and now their cable crap too.
