Hello, I'm looking for a sub with the following requirements. I've searched the forums and I haven't seen a post that matches my setup yet, so hopefully this isn't redundant :)

Subwoofer requirements:
1. Budget (Up to $1K)
2. Subwoofer size Requirements - Any size will do, but nothing excessive, like the size of a Jeep Wrangler, or taller than 6 feet.
3. Room dimensions - 26 (width) x 23 (length) x 10 (height) = 5,980 cu feet.
4. Primary uses - 70% movies/home theater, 20% gaming, 10% music
5. Listening habits - Will turn it up to shake a bit during Friday night movie nights to theater levels, but mainly normal usage.
6. Appearance - not much of a concern, as long as it doesn't look like something the cat dragged in. I'd prefer something that's square vs. a tube that touches the ceiling, but sound is #1
7. Time frame - by Xmas.

-------------------------------------------

My current setup:
Front Speakers: Definitive Technology BP 2000TLs, These have 15" subwoofers in them already, so I already have a decent amount of bass, even without a sub.
Surround Speakers: Definitive Tech BPVX
Current Room: My 13" by 36" living room/kitchen.
Future Room: 26 x 23 basement.
Receiver: Yamaha VX-R995

I'm building my future home theatre in the basement - this room has the larger dimensions. However, the sub has to hang out in my living room for a while until I can get the basement set up. I've heard about Epik and Hsu, but I'm not sold on any particular brand, so let it fly with any and all recommendations. Thank you!

+1 Epik makes nice subs. But your room is pretty big you can add another when you move into the HT...if needed. :)

Loving my Epik Tower in 7,000 cu. ft. Its cost is $100 more than the Castle, but they are essentially the same subwoofer.

Another option (if you have the space) to consider would be dual MFW-15's on sale for $999 right now.

The price on the duals went up but they still have the gift certificate.

from what i understand they are not really $999.
they just give you a gift cert.

+2 on the epik...but get a tower...$100 bucks in the scheme of things is nill.....I've got a tower on order and should arrive in a month. My advise (if you get an epik) is to order NOW....they are going to be swamped and just the fact that they are on back order now tells you something;)

Guy's, why the mass preference for these subs, what makes them so much better than all others?

Don't want to hijack this thread but I think the answer to this question is within the OP's interest.

It's only in the OP's interest if he is interested in knowing the answer. He asked for our recommendations and we gave them.

The mass preference for the Epik subs is on several counts:

* Extreme home theater oriented performance
* Musical and accurate
* Extremely well made domestic product (amps made in Canada, I think everything else is US made)
* Long warranty
* One of the lowest frequency reproducers out there
* Very moderately priced based on performance numbers

All of these factors are some of the many reasons Epik owners are as passionate about their subs as they are. One thing we were NOT passionate about was buying a small subwoofer as these are some of the largest on the market.

It's all good stuff - I was interested in why Epik is such a good sub as well, so thank you for the answers.
