Hi all, 9 months ago i purchased a Optoma HD7100 and have been extremly happy with it, however the other night i was watching a movie and about an hour into the movie i started to hear a noise coming from the fan as though it may be hitting the plastic casing inside however it was ever so slight so i choose to ignore it, 20min later my screen went blank and it trun out my lamp has blow up.
Now my question is my lamp had only done 120 hrs and when i rang the seller they told me the warrantee only last 90days and that the fact that it had only done 120hrs meant nothing. He told me that lamps can basiclly blow at any time and that i must have had a dodgey lamp. Now i dont know weather to such suck it in and purchase another lamp for $700 or is there an underlying problem why my lamp has blown up so soon and perhaps the seller is just trying to get me off his back? Was i just unlucky or has something else gone wrong?

Any advice at all would be much appreciated thank u in advance

ps my room is well ventilated and the projector is attached hanging around 15cm from the ceiling.

Don't buy the whole lamp just buy the bulb, it's a 250watt UHP lamp. There's one on videogon in the case for the H79 H78 H77. He's a little high on the px, talk him down under two. The bulbs are interchangeable and very simple to do, just wear rubber gloves. If you're out of the USA you could search Ebay for any thing with a 250watt UHP lamp.

Tips I can give on protecting your bulb -
Don't turn off the pj just to start it up in a hour, just keep it running.
Don't run it more than 6 hours.
Don't bump the PJ when it's on, bang doors near it etc.
Better luck with the next lamp.

I had that very same problem! same clicking as if one of the fans where hitting something and I burned through 3 lamps. The longest lamp lasted around 400hrs to as low as 150hrs. I sent the projector back, not sure what they did but it did not fix the lamps early expiration problem. They did fix a power-up problem I had. The only thing that solved my problem was to leave that large plastic side piece off that you have to remove to get to the lamp. no problems since. Also, Projector is completely open - no obstructions.

I've been thinking about getting into the Epson 1080UB.

projectorpeople.com - I can't leave an URL since I am new.

Note: I buy the bulbs from replacementlightbulbs.com for $225 type hd7100 in the search field. Good Luck

First thing I would do is to call Optoma and insist on a new lamp. They will ask you to send the unit in to check if the power supply is not causing the issue. Most likely they give you a new lamp if the pj is defective and has caused the issue. I would buy a lamp after they check out the unit and turns out OK. The lamp assembly is about $400 not $700 and if you buy the bulb alone it will be $200+.

Caspian, how many hours on your pj now? Do you have yours table or ceiling mounted?
Still wondering whether there is any correlation between ceiling and table mounting with these bulb failures.

I think I am very close tp to 500 hrs and it is ceiling mounted.
Funny thing is I have bumped this pj at least 20 times very hard due to low ceiling but still going. Knock on wood!:)

thanks for your help guys, i think this time i will settle for a replacement bulb however if it blows again within 1000hrs i will make more of an issue of it and perhaps demand a new projector as this as this would suggest that this is a common factory problem.
