Pregame show on WBBM CBS Chicago via Comcast and OTA is having audio issues. The only audio coming through is sound effects and music. Im not sure if they are dropping the center channel or what. Happens on some commercials also.
Edit:
sound came back around 11:30.. amazing they went half the show without being able to hear the commentators!
Well here in Houston, KHOU-CBS, we started with 2 minutes of the Bengals - Giants (pre)game in HD and then switched to the Texans - Titans game in SD?
Southern2356 09-21-08, 01:10 PM amazing they went half the show without being able to hear the commentators!
Probably some of the best TV you've watched in some time.
risk235 09-21-08, 01:11 PM Why is the Texans in SD? Man after not having power for a while and still without cable, I was looking foward for some football in HD
Erik Tracy 09-21-08, 01:19 PM Watching Bengals vs Giants in San Diego, KFMB "HD" (yeah right) via TWC 708.
REALLY bad macroblocking even on just the slightest of motion.
I mean, just following the players as they move to the huddle results in edge break up.
The whole game is like watching a bad jpeg movie.
I've already 'whined' to my local affiliate, KFMB - but guess what....just the sound of crickets...
Erik
risk235 09-21-08, 01:20 PM Ok its now in HD,whew...
icemannyr 09-21-08, 01:25 PM WCBS-DT (no subchannels) NYC FiOS TV
CIN @ NYG.
All the field and ground cams look sharp. Some macroblocking on fast movement from the ground cam shots.
I have BUF/OAK on KBAK-DT. Great quality as always from CBS.
I was actually looking forward to this game (Looking forward? To a Raider game? Naw!) because of how well the Raiders did last week. This game is turning out to be a stinker... 6-0 so far, Bills can't complete a pass and Raiders can't get a first down. Big plays on Defense, but that's easy to do when the Offense doesn't try.
icemannyr 09-21-08, 02:00 PM CIN @ NYG
I just noticed the 1st and 10 line is a brownish red instead of yellow.
When did they change it?
rebkell 09-21-08, 02:12 PM WDEF-DT Chattanooga Directv, Houston @ Tennessee, looks good and sounds good, with the exception the audio is probably 2 or 3 seconds ahead of the video. The announcer is really good, he tells me about it before it happens. :)

CBS has always had a slightly darker 1st and 10 line then the other networks.
Erik Tracy 09-21-08, 02:31 PM At about 11:26am Pacific Time, my picture went blank, then cut back in and the sound went crackly and is still 'tinny' sounding.
Anyone else notice this?
Other stations are fine.

Same thing happened here in San Diego. Still not fixed as of 11:38.
Erik Tracy 09-21-08, 02:50 PM Sound 'fixed' at about 11:43am Pacific.
PQ is still disappointing w/ macroblocking.
Stills are nice, but macroblocking very noticable -especially the Bengals helmets during any motion.
Beautiful picture here on Comcast. Forgot the call letters for my local CBS affiliate. It's a bit better when switching to OTA except the signal isn't reliable enough and I need the buffer. Can't wait for the 4:00 Eagles game. CBS HD is definitely the best.

Bengals @ Giants, via Comcast on WWJ-DT CBS Detroit. Looks and sounds great.
Also, all in-game highlights in HD, including those from FOX.

Not in San Diego.
The half-time highlights were all in SD and horribly fuzzy - aspect ratio had side bars, too.
Why the huge discrepancy in PQ I just don't understand.
If CBS is the mothership - you'd think they'd enforce/require that affiliates all be set up to the same standards for 'product consistency' - like McDonald's or other companies.
Given what I get from my affiliates, I prefer ABC and ESPN over CBS and NBC for "product quality".
YMMV - obviously....
KYW in Philadelphia switched over from Giants/Bengals in OT, to the start of Eagles/Steelers right at 4:15PM.
HD/5.1 after a couple false tries, but just in time for kickoff. Way to go KYW!

CBS O&O's use 100% of their digital bandwidth for HD. HD image quality suffers on CBS stations that have additional subchannels (-2, -3, etc.).
CBS O&O's
• New York WCBS
• Los Angeles KCBS
• Chicago WBBM
• Philadelphia KYW

• Minneapolis/St. Paul WCCO
• Miami WFOR
• Denver KCNC
• Sacramento KOVR
• Pittsburgh KDKA

Overtime of the Bengals/Giants game was SD on WBBM Chicago (I presume due to the distribution capacity issue) but was HD for the start of the Steelers/Eagles game.
Looks and sounds great via Comcast ClearQAM.
bendog2784 09-21-08, 04:38 PM Colts game on WSHM HD via Comcast was breaking up a lot now appears to be in SD.
URFloorMatt 09-21-08, 04:39 PM Is Pit/Phi in SD for everyone else who had the Giants game in HD? Or is this just a local problem for me?
WCAV CBS 19 over Comcast Charlottesville.
Just flipped on the Eagles/Stealers game here in Chicago.. WBBM is back to the no commentary issue... OTA and Comcast. Some commercials are 100% without sound, some are fine, some are missing the voiceover.. Im not getting Dolby Digital either so its more than just the center channel being dropped I think. Not a good day for WBBM.
Gotta be a local problem. In HD via WWJ-DT, here.

That is strage...715-1 (HD Steelers and the Eagles) was the Gaints overtime in HD....didn't cut to the Steelers in HD until 9:50 in the first quarter, after the Gaints game was over.

I'm experiencing no audio issues from WBBM and I am getting 5.1 on my receiver.
That is strage...715-1 (HD Steelers and the Eagles) was the Gaints overtime in HD....didn't cut to the Steelers in HD until 9:50 in the first quarter, after the Gaints game was over. Noticed that. Tells me CBS was using the same anchored HD path for both games. One would think D* would have access to the backhaul or to the constant feed Philly and Pittsburgh stations got.
Overtime of the Bengals/Giants game was SD on WBBM Chicago (I presume due to the distribution capacity issue) but was HD for the start of the Steelers/Eagles game.Nope, saw the end of the Giant's OT win and the beginning of Steelers @ Eagles all in HD, in Detroit on WWJ-DT Comcast. Must have been a local issue.
If a capacity issue comes into play, what you'll see is the beginning of a game in HD until the early game is over.

Strange. Probably something due to the fact the early game was blacked out because the Bears were on Fox.
jimp2244 09-21-08, 05:10 PM Browns at Ravens in SD on WHIO Dayton, OH... I assume others are getting this in HD? Called WHIO and they said CBS is not feeding the game in HD... Went so far to say that it said "loss of signal" on the HD feed from CBS.

That's what I told WHIO but they don't listen... don't like being lied to.
I'm experiencing no audio issues from WBBM and I am getting 5.1 on my receiver.
Strange. Im not the only one, someone commented on the Chicago OTA thread a while ago that they had the same issue.
OTA is working now. But Comcast is still messed up.

That's how it's supposed to sound right? That is 5.1 audio right???? RIGHT??? :(
Maybe for WLTX...
I noticed nothing inn the surrounds during the pit/philly game> Did anyone else notice that. There's also nothing in the surrounds on 60 Minutes, but that's no surprise.

I definitely heard crowd noise during the game.
Inundated 09-21-08, 08:57 PM I was actually over in the nearby Youngstown market during the Browns, uh, debacle with the Ravens, and someone had hooked up an HD OTA box to feed the game to all the big screen TVs at a big box store!
The game was very much in HD via OTA/WKBN-DT Youngstown OH.
The Browns were very much in fuzzy black and white. OK, they played like they were.

PIT@PHI
Both games look great. The NYG game was in HD until the end. I did not get to see the PIT game until 3rd quarter so I don't know if there was an issue with it being in HD at the start.
Ray Lucca 09-22-08, 01:58 PM The Steeler game was on local CBS yesterday in LA, but since they ran long with the Giants in OT, we missed the K. Off. Direc is supposed to open the Sunday Ticket feeds, but didn't and we didn't get the game until 7 minutes we're left in the first quarter. Both Sun. Ticket feeds, SD and HD we're blacked out.
Try explaining that to a Bar full of Steeler, and a few Philly fans, just un-acceptable.....Who is the Broadcasting Head at the NFL???? I wonder if they know????
richardmayo 09-22-08, 06:34 PM Dan Fouts was the color commentator on the Oakland/Buffalo broadcast.
I didn't realize he wasn't with ABC anymore.
Glad to see he's doing color rather than play-by-play once again. I've always enjoyed him.
