Hi, I've owned a pb-12 plus for almost a year so far and as of yet I haven't had any problem and I absolutely love it. The problems that I've suddenly started having began this last week.
I was watching Master & Commander and thoroughly enjoying the cannon fire in the first battle scene about 10-15 minutes into the movie when, for some odd reason, I noticed a rubbing or scrapping noise coming from the sub in the parts of the movie where the cannon fire sounds distant, deep, but not loud. I got deeply concerned and quickly rushed to shut down the sound. Not knowing what just happened I turned off the movie and decided to play some test tones at different lower frequencies. Sure enough I could hear a rubbing noise coming from the sub. I didn't know what it was so I thought that maybe something may have gotten loose inside or maybe something fell down the ports and was now bouncing on the driver. So I removed the base plate, took out the driver (much heavier than I would have imagined), started peaking around and I couldn't find anything. Then I decided to gently press on the cone of the driver and I noticed a rubbing noise every time I pushed the cone down. I also noticed that the rubbing noise would disappear and reappear depending on what part of the cone I pushed down.
So then at this point I decided to put everything back together and try a few different test tones and hope that maybe the problem would go away. I then put the driver back in making sure everything was connected properly plugged the sub back in, flipped the power switch, and I was greeted by a pop and the smell of smoke....at this point I was freaking out not knowing what was happening to my 1 grand investment. I then figured out that the power fuse had blown so I felt a little relief and simply replaced the fuse with the extra fuses provided by SVS. Feeling confident I replace the fuse power up again and I'm once again greeted by the power light illuminating for a few moments then the fuse burning out...I replace the fuse again with my last replacement and the same thing happens.
So right now I'm out of fuses and I'm heading out to buy some more. What is happening to my dear sub? What can I do to fix this? Right now I'm fearing the absolute worst possible outcome of needing a new driver and needing a new amp.... Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
