Hi,

This is my first post on this giant forum, so please don't flame me if this has been asked before - as most Marantz threads have too many pages to search effectivly!

I purchased a Marantz SR5002 on Saturday 3 x HDMI in and 3 x component in with the idea of connecting my 3 x HDMI devices and well as my 1 x component device to it and switching between them.

After connecting, it seems I'm able to switch correctly between the HDMI devices - but nothing on the component. I was under the impression that this amplifier did video conversion from any connection (composite, S-Video or component) to HDMI ... so I could have a single HDMI out on my amplifier and never switch on the TV.

Is this correct? Is there something I'm missing?

I have read somewhere that (I'm hoping it's not true!) that the 5002 converts to component level only. If that's true - how short sited is Marantz? This means that although the machine has 3 x component and 3 x HDMI, I can only use/switch 3 x at a time!

Also - if this is true, surely that RS232 port they have on the rear can add this simple feature to the unit? They pointed out this unit was 'almost future-proof'

Probably not the best sub-forum for this question; I would be if you asked in the AMPS / RECEIVERS / PROCESSORS (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=90) forum you would certainly get better and quicker answers to your questions.
