I was surprised to discover that only English track option on P.S. I Love You, Warner release no less, was Dolby TrueHD. It started off with this as the default audio track. It sounded great on my PS3, but I'm wondering what do players that don't decode TrueHD do with this disc? Does it play the "core" DD track? I know we discussed this back in the format war days, but to my recollection, this is the only disc that did not have any other audio option.

There is always a "piggybacked" (i.e. not to be confused with "core", which has to do with DTS HD) DD 5.1 640kbps track associated with every Dolby TrueHD track. If you don't have TrueHD decoding capabilities your system will default to the AAC stream. Personally, I wish more studios would do this instead of having the DD track defaulted forcing one to manually select the TrueHD track (*cough* WB *cough.)

I can only hope this is a trend?

Are you saying that there is a hidden DD track that cannot be selected by menu option?

Basically, yes.
