Saw this the other day at Lowes

R13 = $0.65 a sq ft
R19 = $0.86

Standard Fiberglass is:

R13= $0.38

R19 = $0.36

So more expensive but no fibers. Never worked with it, don't know about the density, but I would imagine it's in the same ballpark as fiberglass or rockwool.

Quote from the link above....

SAFETOUCH is manufactured from the same type of fibers used to make clothing and bedding

Any info on if it's treated for mold resisitance? I would think that if it's a natural product it would probably be a good source for mold to grow on. I didn't see anything on the site.

The fibers are recycled polyester

I used Lowes SafeTouch insulation in my home theater and it worked very well. It is much thicker than fiberglass. Almost like placing a thick mattress within your walls.

I begin talking about it in post #75 within my construction thread.

Hmmm It's thicker than fiberglass? So an R13 fiberglass that's 3 1/2" thick, would be 5" in this new stuff?

I don't understand

Maybe he means it's denser not thicker.

Maybe he means it's denser not thicker.

Doh! Sure that's what he means. Maybe I'm dense and thick!

so THAT'S where all those leisure suits ended up!

There are quite a few posts about it if you search in this forum. Most people like it (not scratchy, no formaldehyde, recycled, etc.) except for the cost. I'm planning on using it in areas where I may have to change things around in the future, like inside my soffits and behind my screen wall.

So most like it. That's good to know. I'd like to check out the density when I get a minute.

Thanks for posting that CJ

Yes, I meant denser. I found it a pain to install at first, but the more I used it the more I liked it. I might actually fill my riser with it due to its mold and mildew resistance.

I need to check the data and see if it actually measures as denser. While I'm sure it's fine, a less dense insulation is somewhat advantageous for us.
