Can I use component video cables from my dvd player to my A/V receiver and utilize the HDMI out to the display or do I need to run a component video cable to the display as well? The A/V receiver I am looking at has only two HDMI inputs and I have two Direct TV HD receivers(in seperate rooms in garage controlled via IR buds) and one DVD player all running off one A/V receiver.
Thanks!
Some convert... some don't.
Why don't you either refer to the User's Manual of the A/V receiver or provide the make/model number of the receiver? ;)

Sony STR-DG520. I'm trying to throw something together on the cheap for my neighbors converted garage and I’ trying to figure out if I need him to get a 3 hdmi input for about $70 more to make life easier!
I’m still rocking my NAD T553 so I don’t have the option of hdmi so my knowledge is very limited!
Here's a link to the manual...

Probably find more info in the AV Receivers section under Audio also.
