Hi recently, about 2 weeks ago, there was a power outage at my house and i had my tv and receiver on. A few hours later the power came back on but my receiver seemed to stop working. It would say.. "Hello. Your directv receiver is starting up." Then after that it says, "Almost there. A few more seconds please..." Then it resets and does that over and over. I called Directv but they want a 80$ fee for sending someone out here. Either that or i sign up for their 5.99 a month protection policy and get the service fee waived. I was wondering is there a way to fix this? I really would like to avoid the 80$ fee of sending someone over. I rather spend 80$ on a new receiver but i'm not sure if that's going to fix the problem? Thanks.

Is this receiver a Direct TIVO DVR? If so, your hard drive is failing. Your choices are either get a new Direct DVR (not a TIVO any longer), or you can get your Direct TIVO repaired. One reliable source for repairs is weaknees.com. They can send you a new hard drive loaded with the operating system loaded, or you can send in the DVR.
