Just got this disc today. Didnt really get much of a chance to check it out, but it is on a Dual-Layer Disc with DD 5.1 and THD 5.1, even though the cover only says DD. Funny thing is that the New Line logo is in PCM. It also comes with a digital copy disc.

I noticed the PCM audio for the logo. That was bizarre. I wonder if it's the same on titles that only have lossy tracks.:o

As for the transfer itself, it's a noticeable improvement over the DVD. And the DVD looked pretty damn good to begin with. It also looks marginally better than what I saw on HDNet Movies.

And yes, ignore the packaging. There IS a Dolby TrueHD track.

There's two people in this thread, including the OP, that have stated that this disc has TrueHD regardless of what the cover says. And to give HDD as a source of review accuracy is hilarious.

Watched it tonight.

PQ 4.0, AQ 3.5 (out of 5)

Good transfer, lots of high-frequency detail, nice sheen of grain giving a film-like feel. No DNR or EE. Good color, brightness, and sharpness. Very (very) occasional softness, contrast wavering, posterizing (as in, about one or two brief instances of each).

Watched in TrueHD (to reinforce what others have said, the disc has DD and TrueHD, but as most Warner discs, for some reason DD is the default, not TrueHD). Good audio, voices clear, no instances of distortion, good sound field though I would have liked more activity in the surrounds.

The extras package on this disc is extensive. I watched a couple of the interviews with George Jung, and some of the additional scenes. If you are into extras, this disc will be sure to please. Just having the extras menu scroll into view took a noticeable amount of time; the menu itself covers very nearly the entire frame.

One more comment: this disc took *forever* to load on my Sammy 1400... but played absolutely flawlessly.

Oh, yeah: good movie. It was a blind buy for me and at $25 retail, a good deal.

hey thanks alot for your review, i've been waiting to hear some owners feedback about the PQ and the Audio of this film, this is one of my fav movies and its great to hear its a good transfer and especially free of DNR

Yes, they also talked about there being TrueHD even though it's not listed on the cover.

They weren't big fans of the PQ even though they recognized that director Demme intended for different picture styles to represent the different periods (70s, 80s, etc.).

They said it's choc-full of extras which they were surprised about.

I am still probably going to buy this title when I have the extra cash as it's one of my top 5 movies to be released in the 2000's decade we're in now.

This seems almost unbelievable coming from WB. One of my favorite movies ever with no sign of intrusive DNR. :)

House, thanks much for the shots man, you took screenshots of all the good parts of the Movie, the seens in particular that I were looking for, i'm going to order this now

I watched this last night and thought it looked good, overall. While I was happy to see the grain was largely intact, unfortunately there is a decent share of EE in some scenes. The image would take on a bit of a digital look. However, some scenes have very good detail and this is a BIG improvement over the DVD. Definitely recommended if you like the film.

I got this disk (Blu Ray) from Netflix. I inspect my disks before playing, and this one looked good. Put it in my BD 50 and got the "Copy write Violation" error. Reloaded machine and disk loaded and played poorly. Stutter, lock up, pixilated, sound breakup. I removed disk and put it in my other Blu Ray player, and it wouldn't even load. Locked up machine.

I have played several hundred disks on these machines and never had a problem. Firmware is current on both.

I sent disk back for replacement.

Anyone else have similar problems? :eek:
