View Full Version : computer setup : B&W 686 , marantz PM4001 and elemental designs PM4001 sub? cenerino54 09-23-08, 08:04 AM hi guys , as the thread says I am probably going to purhase that setup ... what do you think about the match? will it sound good in the overall? oh, and I can connect the sub to the marantz receiver? thanks cenerino54 09-23-08, 08:37 AM hey , and if I use an Harman Kardon HK 970 as a receiver or maybe an AVR-132?which would it be better? tell me what you think guys, cya!;) cenerino54 09-23-08, 04:43 PM anyone? at least I would like to know if bowers and wilkins match with the harman kardon . and also what is the difference between the HK 970 and the AVR-132 ? with the hk 970 I can only push in 2 speakers , uh(and the subwoofer?I haven't seen a subwoofer exit in the 970!)?meanwhile with the avr 132 I can plug in more speakers, but I'll have less power. are these the differences? please, let me know , I am a complete noob in receiver etc...thanks ! longfellowfan 09-23-08, 04:50 PM Any Receiver should easily drive your speakers. I am using old yamaha for my 685's and they sound great especially with a sub. I use SVS PB-10 for a subwoofer cenerino54 09-23-08, 05:26 PM yes? and the sub is good in your opinion? thx longfellowfan 09-23-08, 06:20 PM yes? and the sub is good in your opinion? thx Yes the sub is awesome I prefer the 685 svs combo better than the 683 and CM7 towers that B&W sells with out a sub. dknightd 09-23-08, 08:31 PM My office computer system consists of DAC > t-amp > b&W 600v3 and svs sb12 sub. The t-amp only puts out 4 watts, but has always been enough for my office setup. If you want to do a 2.1 system you either want a receiver that has preamp outputs, or a sub that accepts speaker level input. There are a couple of 2.1 recievers that have a dedicated sub out (outlaw comes to mind, but I think there are others). If the receiver you purchase has either preamp outputs, or subwoofer output, most subs will work - otherwise make sure you sub excepts speaker level inputs (which is what I use since the t-amp is a simple cheap device) I don't see preamp or subout on the marantz. I'm not going to check the others, you can do that yourself. I did a lookup on elemental designs PM4001 sub and found nothing - does it have speaker level inputs? For the record, I prefer my living room system with b&w 703 speakers, but the office system is not bad at all :) |
