It didn't come out. I can repeat it infinitely.
Neither did:
District 13
Mercenary For Justice
Until Death
Downfall

All scheduled for release on same day, now bumped to various different release dates.

Now that Equilibrium is showing as 'In Stock' on Amazon UK, I assume this disc finally did come out. Any word on whether or not it is region free? http://blurayregioncodes.com/ has nothing, and all I have been able to find is a small blurb from a user on play.com (UK) indicating that it is region free.

As for the bluray transfer. Im very pleased with the results. The high def results are very pleasing on the eye. This film is also region free, which is handy if you have a multi-region bluray player.

Needless to say I'm going to need a bit more to go on than that before ordering. ;)

Edited to add:

Nevermind :(

It seems Equilibrium from Momentum Pictures in the UK does not have the film's OAR. The case says Aspect Ratio: 16x9 (Original Aspect Ratio 2.35:1), and people on Amazon.co.uk and HighDefDigest are reporting that they've opened the mattes. Very very disappointing, what possible reason would they have for doing this. I sure wish I had heard about this before I had placed my order.

I just got this disc and can confirm a crappy 640k DD track and a 1.78:1 aspect ratio. A worthless disc in my opinion, and am certainly glad I kept the vastly superior HD-DVD.

Avoid this release.

Well here's hope that the price of the UK release will come down. Then I probably have to buy it since I loved the movie and wouldn't like to purchase a HD DVD for much more money than a BD :)

Quoted from a review on Amazon UK.

"EQUILIBRIUM was presented in a 2:35 aspect ratio in theatres and DVD as well. The Momentum Blu-Ray back cover specifies an "original aspect ratio 2:35"and when you play the disc the widescreen version is 1:85 or 1:77... whatever... This is another example of how unprofessionnal independant labels tend to be. It is upsetting because it degrades the whole movie, adding grain in the darker scenes and this is not fair at all in view of the price you have to pay for it. And then, these same people ask you not to encourage piracy. What do you make of them?... Please, do not buy this edition, it will only encourage them to spoil some more great titles in the future. I believe they'd better stick to VHS instead."

Here are some comparisons (http://www.hundland.org/hd/e/e.htm#equilibrium), I have read or heard somewhere that Kurt Wimmer sanctioned the 1.78 release, but don't have a link/quote. Perhaps someone here has a way of getting in touch with him...

Not fussed on those shots at all. The movie was clearly composed for the 2.35:1 aspect ratio, the open top and bottom just look odd to me.
If anyone gets in touch with Wimmer, tell him I want my money back from Ultraviolet... ;)

It might have been okay if they did, or could, do an open matte version but what they did was just plain wrong. Cropping off 40% of the image is just plain unacceptable.

Well in Wimmer's defense, I hear the studio mandated the cut of Ultraviolet that was released. He has his own director's cut that he hopes to eventually see released - though who knows if that's enough to fix the woes of the film.

I'd certainly be curious to hear what Wimmer had to say about this 1.78:1 reformat of Equilibrium. I've watched the disc, and I prefer the 2.35:1 version greatly (as well as wanting that version just on the basis of OAR).

A 3 hour cut of Ultraviolet couldn't save it, it'd just be more bad acting and bad dialogue, all directed with the panache of a kid on work experience. I'd love to think the Wimmer has some ubber stealth cut of the movie, but what we forget, is that he directed everything in the current cut of the movie and while Sony swiped it from under his nose, he's ultimately responsible for the terrible performances. I don't think there's a 'Fincher's Alien 3' waiting to be discovered here.

Having said that, Gun-kata FTW! ;)

If the FX shots had not been created at 2.35:1 the open matted version would not be a disaster. But the fx shots are clearly cropped and that is not acceptable.

I still have my HD-DVD and will not be selling it. Love this movie.

Ultra-Violet sucked. Bad script. Bad everything.

momentum should be appalled at such a pathetic release of a title so many waited for for months. This title got delayed and delayed, and then it comes out as arguably one of ther worst bds EVER issued anywhere.
what a sad joke.

in fact it is one of only 3 bds that I am aware of that are NOT OAR.
that and the pathetic audio are the reasons I would move this release near the top of any list of the worst bds ever.
you see this is an actual good film that has been ruined; not some crapfest awful film that nobody cares about.
that is another reason this release is so unforgivable.

Ahh well I couldnt care less about OAR anyway, I want to see what I want and have the option of different versions.

Just look at The Dark Knight to see how much a joke OAR is.
