I have a fairly large room and have been thinking of upgrading from my current Mirage s12 to a Paradigm seismic 12. I recently picked up some studio 100's and studio-cc center and it would be nice to stick with Paradigm. My question is: do you think this would be a significant improvement over my current sub? I am looking to spend around 800 for the seismic 12. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If your room is large do you have a requirment for the sub to take up a small floorspace?

Studio 100s are big speakers but maybe you have other limitations that require a small footprint sub. If so then my opinion is yes there would be an improvment.

If you do not require a small footprint then my opinion is that you will get much more improvment and fill a large room much better with bass if you spent your $800 elsewhere. Paridigm make a fine sub. I've had several. The seismic sues some excelent technology to get big sound from a small box. But you are paying for that technology just like you pay more $ for a compact laptop then for a much more "powerful" desktop. I'm not goiong to recommend a specific sub as this has been done over and over. If you have more floor space look at some of the internet direct sub manufacturers and buy a fukll sized $800 sub from them (or even 2 depending on what you pick) to fill a "large" room .

Thanks for the advise/feedback. Can anyone else speak to this sub?

Based on everything I've read about it, I'd agree. If you can fit a larger sub in your room, get that vs. the Seismic. Actually, I think the Mirage S12 would be a better performer than the Seismic in your large room.

For $800 you can get:

SVS PB12NSD
AV123 MFW-15 (what I would choose if I were you)
HSU VTF3

Several others that would do much better than the Seismic.

Also thinking of a used HSU Research vtf-2 mk2. Would that be a pretty nice upgrade or about the same as the S12?

the vtf-mk2 is about the same. The VTF3 Mk2 is a slight improvement.

I have owned a lot of small subs in the past, and the Seismic 12 was the best one I owned. I now own the JL F113, but that is an entirely different league. The Seismic did a great job in my 3000 cubic foot room.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I am going to go with the Outlaw LFM-1 EX for 600 or so. It's a better deal than the used seismic 12 and I like how it's also downfiring.

I am actually torn between the Outlaw and A3 - 300. I like the smaller form factor of the a3-300 but that month wait doesn't sound so hot.
