I already ruled out cable, too expensive few choices, but I'm not sure which Dish company should I pick...Dish Network or DirectTV.I'm moving to Quincy,Mass.
I would appreciate some feedback,I will need 2 HD boxes 1 of them a DVR.
Thank you
In general:
The Dish DVR is considered better at this time.
DirecTV HD image quality is considered better at this time.
Both have a similar number of HD channels.
DirecTV has more sports with NFL Sunday Ticket, NASCAR HotPass, etc.

Dishnetwork will not cost you any money out of your pocket to start. Direct TV will cost you $200 for equipment. Also with Dish you can get Turbo HD which is HD only channels, it all depends on what you are looking for programing. I have Dish and very happy with my choice.

You can easily get everything for free with DirecTV.

I just got D* and haven't paid a cent yet and have had it for three weeks. Also, I would suggest you call D* rather than order them online. I was able to negotiate a much better price for their best package including Sunday Ticket and got the the Superfan HD thrown in for free. I paid no money upfront, no shipping or handling no install fee. It was very painless to switch from cable to D*. D* definitely has better HD PQ than my local TW. The SD quality isn't as good but thankfully everything I watch except for The Shield and Ghosthunters is in HD.

i've got e* and like the channel selection, love the dvr, and am really disgusted with the hd pq. most of their channels are pixelated, macroblocked crap that is ever so annoying.
i will switch to d* sooner or later, unless fios suddently appears in our area. what is holding me back is the cost. e* is struggling to keep customers and are willing to cut existing customers deals to stay with them. d* is kinda of getting to be like cable where they charge you for everything.

What kind of receiver do you have? The macroblocking has gone down a lot in the last month or so.
As far as selection, Dish (formerly E*) has more premiums and movie channels. D* generally has more sports.
Most give the PQ edge to D* right now. As far as cost, Dish can be a lot cheaper, the same or more depending on what programming package(s) is(are) selected. Most give the edge to Dish in terms of DVR interface and functionality. However, I don't know of too many people that select a multichannel provider based on set top box functionality.
