I am torn between two subs, a Brand new sony sub for $99.00 and a used Audiosource Subwoofer. The sony weighs more than the audiosourse and has an auto on feature which the used sub doesent have, not to mention the sony is a "10" the Audiosource is an "8".

They both seem like nice subs, and the sony has a crossover control, and can go down to 28Hz. The audiosource is Open box (there is no original packaging box) just the sub and the power cord. and it doesent have a crossover control.

No offense but I wouldn't get either. Neither one will be a true sub woofer. Take that $99 put it in the bank until you save another $100 or so and then go looking for used private ale 10-12 inch subs from proven manufatcturers or if you must buy new save even more until you can get to the $300 range. I personally think a $100 sub is a waste of $ that won't really add much to the speakers you already have.

A $200-$300 Velodyne 12" sub would be a better option. You may find a Velodyne CHT12 (Hint:ebay) for less than $200. They aren't rare. I had a CHT8 in a secondary system and it was a surprising bang for the buck sub. I sold it for $80. Here's a 10" Velodyne: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=2VEVRP1000

I don't want my house to fall down.

I was looking for a modest sub, seince my room isnt too big, all I have is a passive RCA sub which is taking too much power out of the receiver.

There are two subwoofer ouputs on the back of mty receiver. :D one is speaker level and the other is line level.

I really don't need 115Db at 16Hz, just some more rattle. I just made the storm door rattle today with the pasive, but there wasnt much hit you in the chest feeling that the sony at BB had when they played star wars (every other system sas turned off so I could listen to the sony, you could hear it outside the store. :D

I just looked up the audio soursce sub and I kept seeing reveiws that sid the amp would overheat and burn out at high volume, I don't want to cook myself.

Well maybe if I had a tube amp, then lots of heat would be desired.
