View Full Version : Sex and the City!
MattGuyOR 09-24-08, 12:44 AM Just a quick note on the Blu-ray for any of you who are open minded when it comes to "chick" flicks, or have wives, girlfriends or partners that would like to see this. It really is a great movie, and the Blu-ray looks incredible. Very sharp, colorful, with deep blacks and nice skin tones. It looks even better than it did in the theater, and the True HD track is pretty decent as well. So when your lady friend asks you how much you just spent on the Godfather collection, slip her this and all should be well. Oh, and watch it with her, too. You'll survive, you'll make her night, and you might even enjoy it. But honestly, you know you're a closet SATC fan anyway! Who do you think you're fooling? :-)

:)
Does this count?
Sex and the City is too old school Gossip Girl is where it's at now, same goes for you 90210.;)
On a more serious note - Speed Racer has better costuming. How much did they spend on ties?
I would check this one out but I don't like any of the leads, especially SJP. Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, now that's a movie.
OP - How's the movies soundtrack?
Forget this. If you really want to make amends for your Godfather purchase, import this!

Ladies like "Sex and The City" - they get weak kneed at Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.
raoul_duke 09-24-08, 04:29 AM 151 mins of pain...
Cygnus311 09-24-08, 09:46 AM Had to watch it last night. I'll be honest, the TV show was pretty decent. But the movie, I'm still recovering...
dbburns 09-24-08, 12:29 PM I do love me some Gossip Girl. 90210...meh.
Back on topic, I still need to finish watching the series before I watch this movie. I think I am two half-seasons behind, and I can't remember what was going on in season five. I do like the show, so I am sure I'll like the movie.
DarkAdept 09-24-08, 07:23 PM I'm sorry there are so many who aren't open to enjoying the things their significant others enjoy. Of course in my case it's my wife who puts up with my fashion and shopping habit, but she taught me to love football so I think we're even. Needless to say, I can't wait to see my copy of Sex and the City but she's out of town and I'm holding off until we can see it together.
I was thrilled to see that Warner / New Line is embracing digital copy despite what I'd seen reported prior to release. Doubly so because the iTunes version has very reasonable, permissive DRM compared to the alternative. Five computers? Unlimited devices? The ability to reset your five computer count once a year in case you can't de-authorize old machines? Nice.
crunchyfrogs 09-24-08, 08:20 PM I saw the first few seasons back in the day. Would my gf need to watch them to see this movie or can it stand alone?
I am one of those who will be having to watch this weekend, I just hope I get through it....Any reviews on the Blu-Ray?
At least I have Iron Man to save me next week :)
Fargus777 09-24-08, 08:54 PM I bought this for my wife. (She loved it) Im sure I will be forced to watch it this weekend as well. Ive actually heard its pretty good. (from other guys) So I will be going into it with an open mind.

There's three good ones off of that link.
OP - How's the movies soundtrack?
There are some decent songs, and it was nice hearing "Walk This Way" once again. As far as the sound quality, it's good. Nothing that will blow you away, though. It's no Kill Bill.
Dug the series liked the movie & BR quite a bit.
Malcolm_B 09-25-08, 04:44 PM Ugh!
Some things should never be seen in HD and two of them star in this movie.

DeNiro's not much to look at these days but I'll watch his flicks without hesitation in HD.

Wow he is aging! :D
Asshandler 09-26-08, 11:48 AM Picked this up for my wife and I to enjoy the other night. I agree with the OP, it's a well done film, looks and sounds great, and has plenty of female nudity to keep you from getting too bored if you're not a fan of the show. :p
Heck, there's even an (ever-so-brief) shot of man schwang in there... O.o
Worth picking up though if you liked the show, it's basically a 2.5 hour long episode.
Tes7769 09-26-08, 12:05 PM I was lucky enough(i guess) to have one of those "Shoes in the City" contest winner cards in my "Sex and the City" Bluray. Once those shoes arrive and i surprize my fiance with them it's going to be one darned good day and NIGHT FOR ME.:)
As for the movie itself, it was one of the funniest, most enjoyable flicks of the year so far imo.

seen tropic thunder yet?
Tes7769 09-26-08, 12:19 PM seen tropic thunder yet?
Sure did, and enjoyed it also. It's right up there with SatC being one of the better movies i've seen this year, the difference being SatC was more of a dramedy and TT one of the best Ben Stiller directed comedies(in some time).
bimmerfreak0 09-26-08, 03:48 PM do any of you guys have issues with the menu flickering when being used at all or when being popped up????

Morpheo 09-26-08, 09:37 PM Am I missing something? I just bought SATC and isn't it supposed to be a 2-disc set? I have just one disc (marked "Disc 1" btw) and even the box is for a single disc...:confused:
kucharsk 09-27-08, 01:32 AM Looks like it.
From Amazon:
Notice: Disc 1 contains an extended feature film version (12 additional minutes, 157 minutes total) with extended commentary with director Michael Patrick King. Disc 2 contains a digital copy of the movie plus extra content featuring "Conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King", "Fabulous Fashion of SATC", Deleted Scenes, Fergie interview, and 2 interactive features "The City" and "Dish It".

Look behind the coupons & junk on the inside left. The disc is there.
thebland 09-27-08, 02:41 PM My wife gets upset with me as I call the show, "The Four Whores"...
True though....

No, it's not!... Maybe Canuckstanis get to have a single disc edition!!!......
DarkAdept 09-27-08, 06:08 PM My wife gets upset with me as I call the show, "The Four Whores"...

Wow. So is it that you don't think women should like sex? Or that these particular women have too many partners for your delicate sensibilities? ... because I don't remember any of them exchanging sex for money or bartering sex for anything else of value, which leaves out the traditional definition of the term you throw around so lightly.
I'd say you're lucky your wife only gets upset. She has every right to feel insulted by your attitude toward women and wonder about whether you think less of her for expressing her own sexuality.
Morpheo 09-27-08, 08:05 PM rue though....
No, that's unfair.... The first seasons did not have much consideration for men indeed, but it was funny nonetheless. And then it became a little more complex, and very enjoyable actually.
Dave Mack 09-27-08, 08:30 PM What's with all the threadcraps? The film doesn't interest you, no need to even open the thread.

I'll have to sit through it with my wife so I thought I'd check and see about the PQ and give my opinion of the show. I am obviously not a fan, but then again the show is for women and men with a predilection towards fashion.
Johnsteph10 09-27-08, 10:10 PM There's a number of guys here who just lost their mancard. :)
MattGuyOR 09-28-08, 02:24 AM My wife gets upset with me as I call the show, "The Four Whores"...

I believe it's true you call them that, but I don't think your statement that they are four whores is true. Only one of the characters could be considered promiscuous. The rest were just normal women that dated. When you watch the movie, you'll definitely see that you're wrong.

I'll likely sit through it for my wife's sake but with the few episodes I've seen, its about men, sex, shoes, purses and the world of 4 head cases.. But, to me, it is the crude subject matter that has garnered all its popularity. Right out of the scripts of Darren Starr.. My wife says she watches it for the fashion, but sometimes I wonder;)? (I think she has purchased a few pairs of Manolos due to this show...). Another reason to dislike it!!:D
That said, I can see the attraction of the show to women.... what women wouldn't like a show doesn't like purses, shoes, sex and controlling men?
Morpheo 09-28-08, 08:08 AM but then again the show is for women
Yes...
and men with a predilection towards fashion.
Yeah, whatever...;)
