OK I have a home built theater in my basement which is not a "dedicated" home theater. It is also a game room and a general use room. Give me some ideas on how I can improve my set up without too much reconstruction.
The equipment I have includes:
Sony Bravia aw-15 720p projector $1100
Klipsch Qunitet 3 satellite speakers $499
Klipsch RPW-10 Subwoofer $349
Sony regular dvd player$100
Xbox 360 elite $449
Sony STR-DG520 receiver$199
Charter HD receiver $10 /month rental
Thrifty white board 95 inch screen (Home Depot) $30

For a quick and low cost update a quick paint job to your choice of darker colors would probably improve the the image quality durring the day due to less light bouncing off the walls. Some targeted acoustic panels in the right places might help sound quality as well.

In general I would ask what aspects of your home theater do you not like, like the least, or do you feel could use the most improvement. If you give the members a little more direction on where you want to go with it I think you will get a lot more targeted feedback on how to make that happen.

I would like some suggestions on screen placement, covering the windows to reduce light dispersement during the day. As you can see I have 1 window to the left and a glass sliding door on hte right. I have thought about putting hte screen on the far left wall and projecting hte image on the wall where my air hockey table is. Then I though maybe about putting 2 level seating. The way I have it, I can't rally have level seating as you will be too close to the screen. I am up for ANY suggestions!!!!

We (or at least I) need to see a floor plan with measurements and shots of the other walls. If you wanted a bigger screen, you could get a retractable one. On the windows light issues - do you ever open the blinds? If the answer is no, then a very cheap 100% light control method is to cover the window/slider with blackout cloth (looks great from inside and outside). Looks like there is another source of natural light to be dealt with to the left of the air hockey table. If you do open the blinds, then it gets a little more complicated, but still can be done to 100% light control. If you keep the current screen, I would try mounting the center speaker below the screen rather than above, I bet it will sound much better. Paint job darker would help.

I agree with painting the screen wall a darker color. you could also get matching curtains for the front window and sliding doors. A fabric sliding curtain would help better than the vertical blinds on the doors.

Great suggestions! Obviously you can tell it is not a "true" dedicated theater....the room is used for other things as well. I was lucky to get the all clear from the wife to do this much to the room. I wasn't sure though if if would be a good idea to put the screen on the wall where the air hockey table is and then I could put maybe 2 levels of seating. Build a small riser!!! Also with my speaker placement, if you can see I have the Klipsch Quintet 3 satellies. Are they spread too far apart????

I have all my equipment in the back laundry room which is actually located behind the "red" wall that the couches sit up against. It is nice to have all that stuff where it can't be seen. I have the leapfrog wireless remote extender so I can controll all my components without having to go in the back laundry room. Works like a champion!!!!!

It would really help is you post some dimensions of the room. I would agree about the wall where you air hockey table is, if that is the "long" part of the room. I would also suggest looking through the other posts and find what other people have done that apeal to you. Darker colors, acoustical panels and some light blocking shades are all good ideas as these no only help the room look better but also help the on screen image.

Might want to check out iGirl's The Convertible Theater for some ideas. Also, here is an off site link to see more pics of the process.

The most dramatic and cheapest thing you can do is 86 the off white walls and ceiling. Here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14728158#post14728158) is just one example showing what a dramatic difference some well chosen paint colors make.
