Hmmmm...kind of surprised no one has posted anything yet.

I would like to hear some other impressions but I did do a bit of previewing last night to check the quality.

Video is solid but did not strike me as great right off the bat. The picture seemed to have a tendency to be a teeny tiny bit washed out in brighter scenes. This effect also could make the picture seem a little soft at times. However, there were some scenes that looked incredible sharp and colorful. And when the picture looked sharp, it was razor sharp. Super, super clear and crisp. It just wasn't totally consistent.

The other minor issue that I had in my previewing was that the overall picture just seemed a bit flat. Even in the scenes that were colorful and crisp...nothing felt 3D to me.

Personally, I don't think my qualms with the picture quality are transfer issues but rather the nature of the animation and the 'look' of the movie.

It is not bad by any means, just not feeling it like most other animation flicks on BD.

Unfortunately, it was late and I did not get to test out the audio so that can be a post for tonight.

(my equipment - Samsung 5281 LCD, PS3 BD player)

Mine is on the way from AMZ - will see how it is by the end of the week but I suspect I'll like it. This has always been one of my favorite animated movies.

Yeah, good point. I did forget to mention that I do like this movie a lot so it was a no-brainer for me to get it. And the PQ is more than acceptable, maybe just not Tier '0' material.

I purchased it but it woudn't play in my BH200. I'm going to try swappign disks unless someone else eventually confirms some issue with the BH200. I'd consider this movie entertaining, but my wife loves it. After getting to see the Pixars on blu-ray, it'll be interested to see how this one stacks up. Shrek the Third also by Dreamworks looked really good on HD DVD, so I'm hoping for similar results from this disc.

I've rented it from Netflix. It will be here this afternoon. I'll take a look tonight and post my thoughts.

I can't fault the PQ, a pretty much flawless digital presentation. The parts I checked,(I'm not a bit-rate watcher, unlike some people), the bit-rate was hovering in the 30s.

Looked fantastic especially the island/jungle scenes. Pretty much near flawless. The TrueHD track is solid as well.

Yeah, I am definitely glad this one finally came out on Blu-ray! A definite step up over the DVD version.

Madagascar looks absolutely stunning on my PRO-141FD & PS3!! I am simply amazed by the gorgeous colors and amount of 3D on this disc. It is by far the best DreamWorks (animated) title that is out there. I own just about every Tier 0 animated blu-ray disc out there, and personally think Madagascar looks better than any of them (including Ratatouille, Cars, etc...). This is a must own disc!!! Definitely belongs at the very top of my Tier 0 list.

Anyone have trouble playing this disc? I returned my copy to my local Frys since it wouldn't play. They had a test BH200 there, so we tried it in their bh200, no luck. We also pulled another copy off of the shelf and tried playing it, with no luck. Finally they tried it in a Sony Bluray player (I didn't get to catch a model number), with the same results. Just curious if anyone has ha a similar experience trying to play this movie.

The first time I played it, it loaded fine. The next time, it would not load. Just stuck at the loading screen. Turned the player off and reinserted the disc. It loaded and we watched it without problem. Not sure what will happen next time.

Looks great, plays great ... although my PS3 stopped responding and wouldn't stop the movie or turn off after I manually ejected it. Maybe not the disc's fault, though. ;)

Bring on Over the Hedge and Flushed Away!

Watched it tonight. can't believe how much better it is over the dvd version. the PQ is impressive but the PQ of cars, ratatouille and meet the robinsons is still better. wall-e looks like it take the crown for best PQ this year.

You by locally? Maybe we got a bad batch down here in the Atlanta area.

Sounds like I am missing out on a great looking bluray.

You should really have someone proofread your reviews before posting them...

Watched it last night and compared to the dvd at first I was not seeing much difference...but after a few times back and forth the difference was evident: much more detail and better color overall in the Bluray. Unfortunately my old Sammy doesn't decode TrueHD so it sounded ok...waiting for the DMP-BD35 to remedy that issue very shortly! Overall I would def recommend this BD as one to buy (especially for the kids).

anybody?

The music videos are in the Dreamworks jukebox feature, and, iirc, have HD music clips of Shrek, Shrek II, Bee Movie, Over The Hedge (I really want this one on BD), Flushed Away, etc.
