Has anybody made a Quadratic Residue Diffuser such as:

I am thinking about making one but I am not sure how the wells are filled. Are they filled with a solid piece of wood such as a 2 x 6? Or is a small shelf put in the well at the correct depth?

There is a thread over in setup & chat.

Yes (sorry for the crappy photo).

That was when I had them stored off to the side of my living room in a small apartment. I can't find any photos of when I had them setup. I built three different kinds, the wide QRD with bass trap in the back, the thin veined QRD I built oversized (because of the stock I had on hand), and I built some skyline style out of stryro insulation.
Mine were from a design I got on www.decware.com I'm not sure they sell the bluprints anymore. They also have some basic LF sound absorbers built into their backs to help out some.
IMHO, they work better the deeper they are. They work better at higher sound pressure levels. And they need some space between the speakers and the diffusers and diffusers and listener to really work well.
I think they look pretty neat painted as well. The styrofoam ones didn't work to well due to sloppy build, and probably would have worked better had I made them out of wood. I'm going to give the styro another try in the next few weeks, I just have to build a "hot wire foam cutter" with a rip fence first. I think with accurate cuts and some paint, I can make some quality skyline that might actually work!

The link worked for me! I still can't find an answer to my question - how are the wells in the Quadratic Residue Diffuser at the link below filled? Are they filled with solid blocks of wood or some other way?

On the ones that I built, they are hollow which probably accounts for a little extra absorption and cuts down on the weight compared to solid.
Solid would be heavy and expensive. So from that standpoint, I'd make them hollow.
