View Full Version : High Pitched Squeals in 2 Subs in House!

I have a home theater system with a sub, and also a home computer with one too. These two systems are 3 rooms apart. There are loud multiple shrieking noises coming through at about 2-4 second lengths of time.I mean straight out of a horror movie...that bad! Started Sunday in the living room, and later same thing in the computer room.We have added no new equipment or changed anything for over a year. Both internet and TV are satellite based from two different companies.Last year we also experienced what seemed like voices coming through telephone speakers and other speakers, but never more than once. We live in a very sparsely populated area with hundreds of yards between homes.Today I fired up a generator and still had the same problem, eliminating the power grid. What could possibly be causing such a response from 2 different subs in two different rooms 20 to 25 feet apart?
Could an outside power line be causing an interference around my home?
The only thing I can think of doing before I file a complaint with the FCC, is to try some different ferrites of different frequency filtration around the sub cable. I didnt list model names because the problem exists in both of the subs in my home.
I cant post links yet so just enter this video number 71AkRAzBZR4 to see it on Yo*tube. I had my camera handy just in case so I could record the occurence. You can hear my wife changing channels to see if it would make a difference.
This is freaking me out.

If I were you I'd cover all my windows with red tape, don't forget the keyholes and peepholes too.

Seriously, my computer speakers, 2.1 powered, sometimes pick up a passing taxi or truck radio. When I was into shortwave radio there was a trick to locate sources of interference involving walking around the neighborhood with a transistor radio. You might try Google, I can't remember the exact technique.

The "screeches" sound like they are at regular periods. Are you by any chance near an airport?

By any chance any radio hams live near your area? Huge antenna arrays? Not saying that they are the source.... but they could provide good and fast assistance. FCC might take a long while.

What are you using for sub cables? RG6? If not, try it...

It sounds like you got a tough one for sure.

Dont live near an airport, and the noises dont happen at regular intervals throughout the day. Today I am trying to move the sub around to different rooms and trying to get it to duplicate the screech. The only time it occured was when I moved it back into the living room. The sub was plugged into an outlet around the corner, and the sub cable was plugged into the sub and stretched out along the floor and left unplugged. It has not made the sound yet with no cable attached to it.Just received 6 huge ferrites with 3 different ranges of frequency filtering. Just fired it up with the lowest and highest freq range ferrites (2 on the line.) Same sqeal. The subcable is one of those Monster superthick THX things.I've had to replace Monster cables in the past but again this problem happened to the computer as well, so its not just the home theater sub.I suppose if I can eliminate the problem in the home theater sub, I could just not run a sub at the computer. Can the home theater sub be malfunctioning and in turn cause the other sub in the house to pick up the same sound? Doesnt sound possible.

Have you had the power company place a monitor on your home to detect Power spikes? However, if this is just isolated to one outlet in your home, it may be inside and if so, your power company wouldn't do it for free.
