Hi

I've got a nice little 5.1 system in my house, but have recently gotten into the hi def movie market. I have a blu ray/hd dvd player and a hd lcd. I am wanting to upgrade my receiver so that i can play the dts hd and dolby hd audio. I have 7 speakers and 1 sub. The receiver i will get is the Onkyo TX-SR606. The hookups for the sub are digital (i think) but the sub i have runs on normal speaker wire. I am trying hard to keep costs low and really dont want to buy a new sub. Does anyone know of a way i could diy a cable or does anyone know of any adapters or cables that would solve my problem?
thanks

Your "little 5.1 system" is probably a home theater in a box (HTiB). Since your current sub uses speaker wire, it is a passive sub. That means the amp is built into the HTiB. Your new receiver has a line level sub/LFE output. You can't use speaker wire to directly connect your current sub to it. You can use an adapter though. We commonly refer to them as subwoofer amplifers.

Keeping costs low and enjoying the full benefit of high def audio formats don't usually go together.
