Hi All,
I'm looking for recommendations on a decent quality small front firing sub that will unfortunately have to be placed in a cabinet. I'll be putting some sound absorbtion material in the cabinet to try to help the situation out the best I can, but it does have to go in the cabinet.
- The maximum height is 13", so we're talking pretty small (although I'm building a new cabinet so I've got a little leeway)
- The room size is about 1600 cubic feet (14x13x9) - not very big
- My priority is something that handles music well where it takes over for my bookshelves at 70hz as opposed to a sub that shakes the room at 20hz(although both would be nice :) ).
- Front panel controls are preferred but that seems to be pretty rare.
- Price range is flexible, but I'd like to stay under $500.

I know SVS & Hsu are highly recommended but unfortunately neither one makes a sub this small (unless I lay a PB10 on it's side). Velodyne makes a few, as does Polk and Klipsch. Sunfire does, but I think they're all out of my price range.
Anyway, if anyone is in the same boat and/or can recommend a good small sub, I'd appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Bill

Thanks, but the Supercube III has side mounted passive radiators and I need strictly front firing for in-cabinet placement.

oh sorry i didnt know that, i just got my supercube iii delivered to me but i didnt even open it, im returning it back, i did the math and i made a mistake for not buying the eD A2 300 instead, this little thing cant go lower than 40hz so whats the point of me throwing $580 bucks on it you know what i mean, anyway.. im trying to get the best sub that i can for around 300-400 and the ed a2 300 is the top of the line right there..

cheers.

I'm building a new cabinet

If that's the case, then presumably you have, or are hiring, some wood-working skills, so have you considered DIY? You could get a plate amp from partsexpress, a good 10" or 12" driver from a multitude of sources, and design the enclosure with some help from the DIY forum. Something to think about if you can't find a cmmercial sub that works for you...

Dynamo.

I agree. ML Dynamo would fit.

Thanks. The Dynamo seems to be regarded as a very good sub in it's size and price range. I'm looking into the DIY option as well.

Def Tech also has a small sub, I havent heard it but specs say it goes down to 18hz, I would be suprised if thats true but that doesnt mean it might not be a good choice for you.

The sb12 plus is over your budget and 14" tall, but it might be worth taking a look at.

There is an "8" infinity sub on amazon, which is both inexpensive and a good sub, I don't know which way it fires though.
